I played Total Annihilation and spring is like a free offspine and i tryed it.
Hard to use, hard to play, unfriendly people, bugish - that was my xp back then (2 years ago)

Also, FL- if you take a look at it, there launcher is quite sophisticated, you may get some ideas.  it tracks versions, mods, players, connections (and problems), and then launches directly into the game.

latest version is relatively bug free.

its alot of fun, and playing one of the mods they brought over from original is awesome.

i got mine on ebay, got TA and CC, and i keep it on my drive for playing once and awhile.
