Please remove the hidden name system from the launcher.

It seems to serve very little purpose, especially with the use of vent. By the time you've spent upto (sometimes over) an hour to get a game going you already fully know who you're up against. Hiding the names prevents you from knowing if a player on the other team is unplayable with, people with bad connections or routes between the two of you. High settings resulting in a game going at 1/4 speed for everyone.

Three games full of one side and even when you finally get two more team mates to join that 3v3 the other team's win rate is too high/low so you can't play anyways.

I can play one or two games a day with the way things are or around five times as many games of vCoH, simply because it takes so much effort even getting a game started in EiR. As a side note, an afk kick (leave game) in the launcher would be helpful, I was totally unaware closing the launcher actually still leaves you in the games lobby.

Only for 60 seconds. That's because sometimes it crashes, and I want to give people time to restart it. I think crashes are more rare now, so I might lower that number a bit.

With all the current design flaws, making it leave the game when you close it, well it might not be possible.

I was a SUPER crasher... like every 10 seconds.  Now I never crash.  Good work Phil!  Kiss

Unhidden names hurt teams =(
They only way we get games is if people don't know we're playing.

If Vent wasn't a "requirement" then I could see some point in the anonymity of the system, but anyone who is for one reason or another not getting matches, they could bypass it by getting a new login anyway (the No. commanders on both sides has shot up 3 fold since I started this war).

There will always be people wanting to play against the hardcore players (high win ratio) for a number of reasons, just like players who wouldn't go up against someone high in the leaderboard. Some people want a good game, others want a challenge, even if they are pretty certain going in they won't win, these players will go in and try anyway. I can see why you have the system, it just seems to contradict itself with the vent server in place.

That's not even touching on not wanting to go against people for (their) technical problems.

My main concern is the technical issues. I know if a team mate joines and I can't connect he can be reminded but starting a game and spending an extra 20 minutes to sort connection issues just to have to abandon anyways is frustrating.

Besides the fact there is vent, people can also, I found out, just have their opposite faction account logged into the web browser while the side they are using is in the launcher, so they can check who's in what game regardless of vent.

If you can't have an auto leave when it's closed what about a little popup reminding you you're in a game's setup? This isn't really a game breaker anyways, just not obvious you'd stay there when the launcher closes so comes down to etiquette.

You can only do that if the opposing side isn't full.

Alternatively you can just ask who is in a game, and most or at least some players will let you know.

True enough.  Getting rid of the Ventrilo server would solve that problem, no?  Wink

You really need vent to communicate in a good game.

It's just the way it is.

But Vent doesn't have to be provided by the host and rarely is.  We just happen to be nice.

Although at first I thought the no name thing was really cool and would be an awesome thing to have, I think it backfired, but I know fl and phil had good intentions with it. I have an idea that would make setting up games in the launcher better I think.

First off bring names back, mostly because some people want to avoid people on the leader board if they are new, but mostly because there are some people you don't want to play with (people you KNOW you have connection issues with).

Another thing, if it is possible add something that shows how many battles a player has faced rather then a W:L ratio that would be much better, in particular, if it could go by company. For example Alpha company would have a (4) next to it if they have fought four battles with that company. I would like something like this because sometimes I want to test out a new company, and if I'm in a 2v2 and one guy has (22) next to his company and another guy has (30) I'm going to either leave the game, or switch to a company of mine that has seen some battles (aka has some vet). Because nothing is more frustrating then trying a brand spanking new doctrine and company only to face 90% vet 2 and 3 units. It would also help you find people who are also using relatively new companies as well.

Although if the latter is not possible the current percentage system works fine, because if you see, what is it, 0 (33%) you know your ally is using a new company.

And either way, I am very grateful you guys are nice enough to provide us with a vent server =)

*AB company going for raid assault
  Infantry going for tank reapers
Axis:
*Defensive going for rocket artillery
  Blitz going for lightning war
And an experimental Terror company going for subversion consisting of all volks and two King Tigers
