I've seen a few threads with some fantastic pics and situation maps from WWII.  Where are the best places to find these?  I know you can get some off google image search, but have you come across any specific sites that have good collections?

Post your links and they will eventually get incorporated into the tutorials/guides sticky.

For the newest CoD (i think it was CoD) they had to buy the topography pictures they used to construct their landscapes from the secretary of defense of great britain.

So I guess most of the really good stuff is in some locker boxes in the basements of government archives...

But if someone really finds a site where more than (or even) a handfull of good pictures are listed, hell yeah plz share!!!

I guess you're right Wink

I found some pages with pics and maps from Normandy, the battle of the Bulge and Italy.
But you have to click through the chapters to find some good ones. (They're rare indeed)

Maybe you already know these:

Cross-Channel Attack
Battle of the Bulge
Anzio Beachhead

Some of the links on this pages (chapters or pics) lead to a file not found message. You have to try out. Other versions of the essays can be found here.

Just use the search function (e.g. "Normandy", etc.) and you get more links.

Oh, interesting, I was familiar with Mr. Cole's Battle of the Bulge history, but hadn't thought to look for others in the series.

I have a link to old German photos from the eastern front but they show Swastikas and I would not want to post them or the link for fear of offending anyone..

They are pictures taken by German troops during occupation some have landscapes while others are of loved ones and military proceedings...

Feel free to post them, I'm in charge of this little subforum and I see no harm in posting WW2 reference pictures that include swastikas. Let's not censor history Smiley. If anyone does feel offended by them, I'll take responsibility.

I'd love to see them, shoot!

There's a difference between using a swastika as an avatar and displaying a picture as reference material that just happens to have a swastika in it. Anyway, let's not derail it further. Just go ahead and post the pictures, I'd love to see some of those Eastern Front ones.

Here is the link enjoy. When I look at these I think of the old saying a picture is worth a 1000 words...

For anyone else but Unknown the most treat them with respect...
