Been reading this book "Heroes of WWII" and there was a Fort called Fort du Roule in Cherbourg that I thought make an interesting map, especially defensively. Here's a passage from the book.

"...fort du roule, the strongest of cherbourg's defensive positions. A multilevel fort built into the face of a promontory(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Promontory), the structure had mortars and machine guns in concrete pillboxes spaced across its face. Additional bunkers fronted with barbed wire-filled antitank ditches, guarded the fort's approach."

sounds a bit much i dont know if it can be made in CoH but it sounds like fun Cheesy

I don't know sounds a bit much for a map. Do you mean the whole fort.

Or do you mean like one portion of one wall.

Just one portion, it'd be built into a mountain so you have the axis come in from the corners maybe on the fort side and be able to have machine gun bunkers and those little sandbag circle things for the mortars or 88's and the approach to the fort would be the city next to the mountain I think. I can't find any really good pictures.

I guess this is good for a view of the fort

Fort Du Roule w/ Cherbourg in background.

This page here is a really good reference for cherbourg and what it was like, crazy man...40,000 lost

yea but I bet no one tried to go up that fort on the rock side  Tongue

doesn't look like you can really climb it without any mountain climbing gear

They call them the 2nd Rangers and another Ranger Special Forces(not like now but better than normal infantry) were used for mountain climbing and things like that.

well of course you make it lower in game...but i think this would be a b***h to fight against...it'd be a really interesting 4 v 4 map, epic battles!

It was just a thought i had, not really advocating it but just a thought...

I don't know if it would be a good EIR map. But yes its a great idea. It would work in VCOH.
