if that wasn't one of the craziest things I have read i'd erase it... lol

Uhm actually thinking more about this, more and more, I am kinda siding with unknown and thtb that it can be a hindrance to new players for sure.

Lol.  I hope someone makes a "Salan" creature in Spore.

I agree with Unkn0wn.  Open up the channels to unregistered users for talking and listening.  Though I think you should keep the two HQ channels as being for their faction only.  As for the variety of other channels, I think they are fine as they are.

I disagree, somewhat.  We have too many passworded channels, specifically the railroad tycoon channels.  Seriously, why do we need more than one channel that inevitably becomes a mod hang-out?

Hmm... True.  For the number of people on that project they hardly need like six channels.  But on the other hand, what does it matter if it is one or six?  The effect is the same.

Not only does the bottom half of vent become more cluttered, but regular players feel frustrated with mods being spending all of their time spread out over a number of passworded channels designed to cut themselves off from the rest of the community.

Sometimes, it's hard to see these things when you have access to said channels.

i will only ever be in passworded channels when dealing with sensitive information from now on.  If I am in vent i'll be in the open hang out known as TLS testing Wink

But my original point still stands.  If there are 5 mods in five different passworded channels or 5 mods in one passworded channel, you still have 5 sequestered mods.  So I don't think the password is a valid argument to get rid of the passworded channels.

on a side note, most of these mods have very little to do with EIR at this point anyways, and are there to moderate vent in and of itself.  So being in EIR rooms isn't really what they need to be doing in the first place, is it?

Then I will stand by the fact that we don't need more than one perminant mod channel because 4 or 5 is more than 1, and unless I'm missing out on something big, they all fulfill the same purpose.

They're redundant.  It might be useful to have a sub-channel to pull people aside and discuss things outside of the general mod channel, but outside of another channel there is no reason.

in this situation there is ultimately a reason for two distinct different password areas on vent.

One of them is three channels, though.  So technically you have four distinct password areas.

There's indeed no need for 4 different channels in "Railroad Tycoon" and another 2 channels for 'development' and another 4 channels for TLS testing. Just looks cluttered imo.

Since I own and run the EIR vent currently, I figured I should comment here:

Regarding Guests:
I removed the Unregistered thing like a week ago, right after we talked Unknown - Unregistered users can change channels and don't get the big "NEED RANK" tag anymore - Since TLS is not currently running, people don't need Axis or Allies tags so I'm not actively adding them to people unless they specifically ask

Regarding Rooms:
Right now EIR and TLS are all kinda in transition, people play a variety of games on the Vent and with the current state of EIR I'm not going to fault them for that - When TLS Starts up again we may crack down a bit more.

Regarding Mods:
the EIR community has a rather high jackassery ratio, so the number of vent mods seems appropriate - If people have problems with the actions of a specific mod, please PM me about it on the vent and I will follow up with you - I take Mods doing their job very seriously.

Regarding Chaos's Room:
I made Chaos a room because he routinely has 10+ people following him around wherever he goes - Often times they would end up hanging out in "Mapping" and it was determined that it was better to make a specific room for them to hang out in than have Mapping be unavailable for people who wanted to legitimately map

Regarding A Room for Thtb:
When people like you enough to follow you around, I'll make you a room - From what I can tell though, more often than not you're one of the folks who shadows Chaos - Long story short wtg envy

Regarding the Railroad channels:
We are not playing railroads, these channels are being used for another project - Info will be made available when we are ready.

Any other issues with the Vent, please take it up with me - I am on all the freakin' time although not always sitting at my computer - Leave me a PM and I'll get back to you.
