Starting today, there's a new holiday offer for World War II Online: Battleground Europe.  A 2 month (!) free trial under invite from a subscriber to a new player.  Apparently the number of invites I can send is unrestricted.

http://www.battlegroundeurope.com/index.php/component/content/article/25-promotions-a-offers/1027-christmas-promotions

If you ever wanted to try WWIIOnline, now's your chance.  Just give Commander Newbie your first and last name, as well as an e-mail address and I'll send an invite.

On another note, inactive players who have been active within the past 2 years have had their accounts automatically reactivated for free to play until January 9th.

Nice, just a shame the graphics are really preventing me from getting into the experience.

Tried it for an hour, but slow and confusing. Spawned at a base, tried to accomplish an objective...except that it took more than 5 minutes to walk.

Spawned as a truck, but no way to get out of it so apparently I'm stuck as a truck.

Finally found a forward spawn point, spawned, travelled for a minute, tried to hide in cover, got shot by something. Rinse and repeat 5 times later, uninstall -.-

WW II online is full of fail because of small kids who play on opposing sides, wreck ur tanks, anti tank guns, 88s etc etc etc. so that their side can win. Go play for one week and you'll find out.

Nice to know that people are still as ungrateful as ever.

Misten, I'd suggest trying it out with someone else who is experienced in the game if you want to have a more entertaining experience.  It helps a ton when learning how to play.

I like WW2Online, have been absent from EiR for the past 2 days because of that.

Omg, I would like to try this...

I saw a video on Youtube of an airdrop. One of the transports got shot down with the people still in it. I loled at what if I was in a transport near them and heard them screaming, "OMG! We Are Going Down!!!," continued by, "OH SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII-" Cut off because they went out of range to hear them. Mics with ranged broadcasts would be epic.

its a very good game.. it has a very large learning curve and u do get 1 shot killed, and thats the main thing that runs people away, plus you have to look at map to find the battles, requires team work to get around and so on.  just played too much and got burnt out and havent playing in months...

thinking of getting my sub back up and running, feel like taking out 3 tigers with 1 stuart Smiley

Armed Assault is cheaper still, with better graphics, more realistic and is more capable.

But when we are talking about WW2OL nobody gives a shit. WW2OL is pretty amazing but the graphics and the lagg time & graphics turned me off.

alot of people whine about the graphics... the lag is not there for me at all.. guess its just your connection or somebody elses near you, but for me no lag at all..

but the graphics, people forget that ww2online has like the largest online map of any game i can remember.  once i took off from north near belgium, and put my plane on auto pilot.. flew all the way down to norther france..   i suppose if they made it onto a small little map they would map the graphics better..

also curious of why you guys say the other games are more realistic? ww2online is very accurate in all its models.. it is limited in some ways, but again that is becuase of the map size, which i think is a great trade off..  so fun when a town is getting attacked.. take a m10 or 76mm sherman and take a nice drive to flank the guys, they dont see you because map is so big, some up behind the stugs, mark4s, tigers and rape them before they even know what happened... uhh, how that guy get behind our wimpy armored nazi butts? buahahaha.. or just take a 17pdr and kill a tiger from 1500m.. thats so fun!

Ah, reminds me of Operation Flashpoint. Get shot in the leg, you have to crawl, shot there again and your dead. Shot in the chest or head, your dead. And talk about big maps? It takes forever to just drive from one end of an island to the other end and there are 3 islands.

Anyone still play it WWII Online? I was going to see if I could get the trial for Friday evening.

WWIIOnline's Good Points

i. Fun realistic Tank battles, but you can only have two person crewing the tank.... I would rather have a driver, a gunner and a tank commander to operate at 100% efficiency.
ii. Good Airborne/Paratrooper simulation (Boarding the plane, touching off, reaching DZ, moving in to take objectives)
iii. Good physics (Damage, Projectile trajectory, Realism blah blah)

Bad Points

i. The LARGEST Battles are usually 16 v 16 or 20 v 20. You'll never get anywhere near 50 v 50. The level of immersion is not really there
ii. The map is too huge. It becomes a common tactic for the enemy to launch 5 fake offensives, with only 1 real attack where as the defender has to spread their troops evenly across all 5 battles just incase some random paratrooper or infiltrators sneak in and cap the town instantly.
iii. There are people with double accounts who would log on and report to the enemy where your mobile spawn is, where all your defences are position, troop strength etc.
iv. These people also drive out the tanks, the high calibre anti tank guns and dump them in rivers, suicide them etc to make their faction win.
v. Players can just bum rush with vehicles/tanks to win. Imagine in a 16 v 16 battle (which is pretty decent), half the players are using tanks/vehicles/anti tank gun.... one would think that you have a HIGHER ratio of infantry to special weaponry.

Its quite good, however i only really enjoyed it when playing with others and logged onto vent. Our Kampfgruppe with Tiger support caused many British casualties.
