In this game there are going to be companies on defense and companies attacking that defended territory. The defenders will have the advantage as they will arrive on the map usually around 5 minutes earlier.

In war generals had a rule that you required 3x the size of force to attack a sector successfully.

The question is, if you are attacking a sector defended by an opposing company, how much larger (in terms of total squad strenght) should your company be than the defenders?

Personally I think you'll need around double the size of force to ensure success.

Double sounds good to me. Seeing as how this is a game and we do have advantages that generals in RL would not have had such as being able to see the status and position of all troops at all times, not to mention never having to worry about units retreating on their own, double the troops sounds the right amount of attacking force.
Of course this would vary quite a bit depending on company makeup (Only inf attacking only anti-inf units for example.)

BTW the ablity for defending forces having time to set up is brilliant. I have always wanted to see that in any game and now I finally get the chance.

I seem to think that if your going to make a push on one side of a map you should always be defending the other. Set up defense on one side attack their defense on the other.

As for defeating the defense, most defenses are stationary and if you use double the force that there then you should be able to micro around and only have a loss of a few infantry.

Well as far as I can tell, the games will be more realistic with each side being either a defender or attacker. As an attacker i believe the only way to lose is to be wiped out.

Of course even if you launch a sucessful attack force, you might be forced to defend next turn (is that the correct term), so it would seem important to have a balanced force to both attack an area and to hold it.
