I'm just curious since fl isn't exactly running everything right now, where do donations go? I made some extra money on my last paycheck and wanted to make a small donation, but just wanted to know, does it go to the website or vent or what?

I'd assume all of the above. Probably more towards web hosting. Vent is considerably cheaper. I pay I think $48.00 a year for a 20 person vent server myself. Web hosting can run anywhere from $15.00 /mo to hundreds.

Right now it helps go to pay for the server, Nevyen is paying for Vent out-of-pocket.

how much is the server per month and how much would it take to get a better one that doesn't crash as often and runs faster :-D and also one we can post our replay's on instead of an outside source.

How much does nev pay for the vent? Its not fair for 1 person to be paying all of this, especially considering the assrape of actions that generally act against nev ingame and in launcher and in vent when he's online.

Nev, if you want to split monthly ventrilo costs between you and me by me taking over the costs for you until end of summer this year, please send me PM about it. That sound about even

The vent server costs 22 bucks/month. Nevyen only paid it when the donations weren't sufficient, but that hasn't happened for a very long time..afaik.

Teamspeak takes up triple the memory of ventrilo AFAIK I remember it being much more memory heavy when I used it for a short while.

Anyways I'm going to read this: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/231043-35-teamspeak-ventrilo-real-statistics-opinions

And be back with a conclusion

-imagines a BDSM club funded by the donations... shudders-

Well what's not going into short term high-yield stocks managed by Nevy is used by Myst to fund his plans of creating a time machine to go back in time and present a perfected form of balance for EiR to a past version of himself and kick off a perpetual paradox as Myst pursues ultimate balance.

TS3 is probably better. I haven't installed it yet, nor do I plan to in the near future, so I can't know for sure. But since I've never had any issue with Ventrilo I don't see why a switch would be necessary, unless for financial reasons. Even then, I'm not sure if the added work of re-registering all users would be worth it. Especially given how there's at least one asshole who is likely to try and impersonate everyone, just to fuck with them/us.

Of course, last I checked, TS3 was supposed to include a pretty sweet SDK, which would maybe allow us to register users through the site, which would be cool. And a time saver over time... too bad I wouldn't have time to play with it anyway.

TS3 is better because you don't need to pay for a server. You can host a server right in EiRR's web server, just like OMG.

yeah but only a 30slot server. you need a license for more slots (currently there are 32 users on eir vent...)
