It may have been dust or something.. admittedly I didn't take very good care of the computer. Left it on all the time.. never cleaned it. But.. I was a hardcore Starcraft junkie at the time.. so I rarely slept. Nearly failed my junior year of highschool... yeah fun times

*enjoys 45 degrees Celsius AMD 3800+ single core(Venice, I think?) on stress*
^^

It could be a Newcastle or Clawhammer too, depending on the socket (939/754).

Heh I'm only slightly overclocking right now, so I'm around 50ish, 55 after a longer gaming session. It'll get worse in the summer though. It's an Athlon XP though, they run 15-20 degrees higher =)

I'm more worried about my hard drives than processor, always have been. Those bad boys hate high temperatures. And high starts at 40 for them =P

I've got my q6600 running at 3.4 ghz and I'm idling at around 40* C. Gaming gets to around 60* C.

Woo aftermarket heatsinks.

We are serious about enforcing this, and I am sure you all want to be able to have your balance thought considered by the development team with some biased, sensationalist coming into your thread and ruining it.

60C is bad for Prescott CPUs because around then they start to throttle (essentially underclock themselves) to relieve the heat.  It is in fact a feature of the chipset that does this.

Its not bad per se for the life of the CPU at that temperature, its bad for your performance.  And with good cooling (and I'm not talking liquid, I mean standard fans), it is entirely possible to have them run at 40 - 50C under load.

Check out this app, it will let you know if your CPU is throttling, and you can compare it to your CPU temp to definitively know what is too hot and what isn't.

all is good.  played a few VCOH games, cpu around mid 40s at best, i think it was just all the dust.. wow.  ummm ummm, fast load time, no lags or anything..

but, now i do realize my GPU is running kinda hot, or i think.. its a 6800ULTRA i think... runs around 60c at full load.?

clean that bitch son. oh btw check you processors heat sink. your conductor compound might be dried and needs lubing lol. so theres no cooling coming onto the chip. i had this happen to me it sucked.
