-- mod download link for impatient ones --
The Hawks are a friendly group of gamers and history enthusiasts who play our own mods for the American Conquest series.  The group has been active and thriving since 2002 when it started, using Cossacks - The Art of War at that time.

Today we use my mod, the Hawks' Divided Nation Mod, for American Conquest Divided Nation, and GeXozoid's Hawks' European Warfare: Napoleonica, a mod for American Conquest Fight back.  I'm going to be advertising my mod, but most of the hawks play both.  This post is an invitation to anyone interested to come try our games with us multiplayer.

Hawks' Divided Nation Mod

Hawks' Divided Nation Mod

If anyone remembers the game American Conquest Divided Nation, they'll probably die a little inside.  I did when I picked it up in 2008, before I set to modding it.  Try to forget what the game was like, as the mod is what this is all about, and the mod plays completely differently from the original game.  My recommendation is if you are interested in American Civil War or Napoleonic history, and like the idea of playing grand scale multiplayer battles with us, to give this a try.  The game is cheap on Ebay or Amazon.

  • My mod has two major parts, the mod itself and the scenario engine I made which is an extension of the game engine and is run with our maps, allowing me to expand the game source code.
  • The mod completely rethinks how the fighting works, just about everything is redone -- muskets, bayonets and artillery fire.  I also redid the formations and units.  The scenario engine allows us to do previously impossible things, like setting up the orders of battle in a spreadsheet and having the game import them, and a lot of other stuff.
  • Then there are the maps, we use a lot of the maps that came with the game, as well as our own, mostly ones I made.
  • I also wrote an automatic updater, before each battle you run that to bring everything up to date and then it starts the game.  This allows me to frequently make improvements to any part of the mod, maps and scenario engine and have everyone using them immediately.
  • This mod is for huge multiplayer battles only, we don't do any base-building stuff or singleplayer of any kind.  A bunch of us meet on MSN messenger, pick a battle and go right into the action.
If you're interested, you can head to the forum and find more information, and introduce yourself, we always welcome new players.
You can also talk to me on MSN messenger, my address is Garnier44 at live dot com (you can figure that out!)

Now of course, it's time for screenshots.  The best source is the album I made on our website.  I'll put some direct screenshot links in this thread as well.  The screenshots are all of our multiplayer battles:

To give a little idea of the scale, here's a shot from a recent battle on Gettysburg Day 1.   6 players.  Only about 2000 of the 12000 troops involved are in this screenshot:

He made a funny thread for bear, and got banned.

Now bear makes his own funny thread. It's unsurprisingly not funny.

Keeps died for our funny threads.

 Cheesy

Real blobs suffer in this game.  I made muskets do more damage to packed troops.  Like the first screenshot, the guy Zack kept throwing masses of men at me (about 3000) just like that, he lost all of them and never took the ridge there, I only needed about 1000 men total to hold it.

Wouldnt Empire: Total War be a good game if your into this era.  Someone should create a Civil War mod for that game.

Total war series has gone down the tube in my opinion.  I've modded MTW, RTW and M2TW an awful lot, they're not good games for modding (despite the plethora of mods), and ETW isn't as mod-able yet, they never released the tools they promised (who ever does?!).
