I liked Smokaz Comment about Microing to the end
funny and in some ways a momentum to skill. He must have been an intelligent man to be able to react as fast as he must have done. When i drive and have passengers in car half your mind is on the ppl inside the other half on the driving.
I Salute the man and will be praying for his family.
considering the discussion as a whole i would like to add that its better to save it to a later date. When tensions and feelings don't get in the way. Now at best it will just result in a pie throwing contest.

Idk what's so hard to see, it was either him or everyone inside the car.
Of course, but please do have some respect for this man. Most of us here, myself included, would have tough about it for at least a second, and even if we had managed to drive off the temptation to protect ourselves, it would've been too late. However, this man has, without even a second thought, given his life for loved ones. This not only indicates that he was brave, but also makes us understand something about his will to sacrifice for those he loved.

I've been driving for years on places you wouldn't even dream of driving could be allowed, seen lots of crashes (even a truck getting hit by a train because the truck driver "thought" he could make it on time rofl), dealt with so many drunk/drugged fucktards that I can't even remember of; one of them involves hitting me on the back at 50mph while I WAS FUCKING PARKING the car (that was 5 months ago, 10.000U$S to repair all the damage).
Shit just happens, at those speeds it's next to impossible to differentiate a racional reaction from luck, destiny or anything.

If I get shot and it's a gay medic fixing me up, he's not gonna be fondling my balls while he does it. You can't patch a chest wound and suck a cock at the same time.

Couldn't he have swerved left instead of right to have the other side of the car take the brunt of the collision?

I think threes definitely a lot of young people here who haven't experienced fully or become aware of the extent of human parenting
Just watch fathers or mothers on a cafe w/ their offspring when some punk or guy sending out bad signals enters the room, they tense up, their heads turn, they make a evaluation
Or better, spend a day watching someone's 5 years old for them, although a secondary nature to your own, for those of you inexperienced with this it can be quite the wakeup call, you'll experience it first hand how a protective nature emerges in you
Some of the responses are striking me as odd since theirs a prevalence of americans here (haha) who have a lot of collective values compared to say, norway, which has a individualist culture yet they are not in contact with this family type of thinking
i attribute that to people being young again
to you who dont understand what this is about, dont worry there's also a change in mindset, at one point no matter how ugly, weak or sexy you are, age will turn you from one being guarded to a guardian, its part of becoming adult and normal human development

Smokaz is entirely right things like 11sept showed that the human cared more for the others then themselves on contrary with popular beliefs.

And yet again the main point me and Unknown were trying to make is ignored..
When you have time to think - yes, most people will make the morally right decision. In the half-a-second time-frame of an impeding car-crash you might not be fast enough to make such a decision.

if you cant see a car hurtling towards and about to wipe you out, perhaps you shouldnt be on the road yourself. driving is as much about road awareness as it is doing the driving itself.

Deadbolt - there's a huge difference to seeing a car moving towards you, and to making a split-second decision to override your basic survival instinct, on top of making a complex physical mental calculation on how to ensure the safety of the passengers of your vehicle.

nah. It's something like 2/3rds of a second for the average person to apply the brakes in an vehicle from the point of recognition to action. Assuming he drives with hsi hands on the wheel it would be even short considering the time required to lift your foot from the accelerator to the brake isn't required. He most definitely applied the brakes, but turning and braking are 2 separate acts(assuming our subject wasn't an avid High speed auto manouvre enthusiast)
If everything about the collision is correct, and we discount him turning left cause it was easier. I'm saying emotionally he was decided that he valued his family above himself and it would only take a fraction of a second perceive the threat and perform the action.
The survival instinct has already been moved from self to family long before the point of conflict with the automobile collision.
