I can only begin to imagine the horror and suffering endured by soldiers on the beach, puking and shaking in fear, drowning men without a chance, the water stained red
from the blood of the dead, bodies laying on the beach, intercepted by machine gun and artillery bombardment and dropped in deep water or on the open beach, many men having lost their equipment or being weighed down by the heavy explosives and other armaments to be used for blowing gaps. Of the 2,400 tons that were planned to arrive on the beach on D-Day, only 100 tons were delivered.
A strong current caused nearly every company to land further east than intended, landing far from their intended targets and were so intermixed, that organization was very poor. In the cases where the landings took place directly in front of the enemy strongpoints, casualties were extremely high. Less than 50% of the men reached the shingle and even after reaching the shingle the enfilade fire made this position precarious at best and only a handful of men of the initial attack were able to survive on the beach. The bluffs and valleys above the shingle were also thought to offer protection but was heavily defended and laden with barbed wire and minefields.

ps: That first version of Tanteville actually looks a lot better than the current version.

Sharks are not monsters Henley, they are cute, cuddly and misunderstood. They love humans. sometimes they love TOO much. They love people so much that sometimes their kisses separate people into two flailing pieces which are consumed by other sharks in a frenzy of peace and joy.
