Question on drop rates
«
on:
March 06, 2009, 08:14:47 am »
Just a quick question for you dev guys. Are you using the vCoh drop rates of .6 for Wehrmacht and .3 for PE or the beta changes where it's all .3? I'm referring to Schreks, Allies get a multitude of drop rates. Or do you guys use your own drop rates for EiR?

Good question. I *believe* we are using vCoH drop rates for weapons.
Any of the coders want to comment?

can
be dropped as opposed to those that
are
dropped?

Obviously you didn't read my question properly. But anyway, so they are the only types of weapons that can be dropped.

Only all the weapons that DO drop, and the MP44, have models that will display properly when they have dropped.

perhaps weapons could be made more droppable? salvaging weapons is a much more important part of EiR than vanilla.
although, that said, i would rather not have every shrek mob packing 4 shreks apeice =P

Well, like all assault weapons their purpose is to run in. If they die your opponent gets it not you, making them infinitely less useful.

i'd think a higher drop rate for all Non AT weapons would be great, such as Brens and LMGs and Bars. The shrecks though should probably stay the same drop rate or lower due to them being too powerful when picked up by anyone, while an extra MG doesn't add too much power and even weakens guys like knight's cross a fair bit.

Never really got an answer to my question so I'll assume they use the Vanilla drop rates. Which are as follows
Weapon Drop
BAR 0.2
Bazooka 0.25
Recoilless Rifle 0.4
Bren LMG 0.2
PIAT 0.2
Panzerschreck 0.6
LMG 42 0.6
Panzerschreck 0.3(this one is the PE schrek, the double AT efforts free schrek is apparently undroppable in vCoH)
So wehr has a pretty rough time on drop rates currently, at triple Allied drop rates and double PE drop rates. In the balance playtest they dropped the Wehr screk to be inline with the PE schrek and left the LMG 42 at 0.6 still.

not to mention wher issues those weapons more then US issues theres. You always see lots of schrecks and lmgs, you don't see as many bars, ALTHOUGH, take this into consideration, the US drop rate is lower, but in vcoh BARs are a uni upgrade and every rifle squad has two BARs, and with zookas and RRs, there are 2 in each squad, so if that multiplies, the actual drop rate would be .4 for BAR, .5 for zooka, and .8 for RR. and if you spend the muni, double LMG and shreck would be 1.2... so im guessing maybe it doesn't quite work that way.

Try multiplying the not-drop chances.
For instance, if you want to see what probability two Axis soldiers will die and NOT drop a LMG, it would be (.4)(.4)=(some number).

i always seem to lose bar's personallly, i think its cuz of the higher squad size, even though there's a low drop rate, there's a .20 chance that one of the men will drop a bar, so if you keep losing men, at least one of the 6 will drop it almost everytime.

number of weapons has nothing for it. Losing 1 grenadier from a 4 man double schrek team doesn't give a 120% chance of drop. it's when the squad gets low it comes into effect. as it is now schreks are all over the place because many axis units have them and the high drop rates. I don't know of any modifiers that come into effect for drop rates. so it's a flat 60% chance of dropping an LMG/schrek on death.
and Tym, units only begin to calculate drop rates when there are not enough men left to man them. in vcoh anyway.

i'm pretty sure that the scattering angle "bug" is not fixed on allied infantry, they seem much more accurate using picked up schrecks
weapon drop is the worst nightmare of axis because the small squads
retreat them at 3 men is using a unit only to 25% effectiveness
retreating at 2 men is 50% effectiveness
at 1 men is 75% effectiveness but you have to retreat most time @2 men to make sure u don't loose weapons and to save the squad
on allies side with 6 men per squad you can pickup schrecks without really loosing AI capabilities..you can use the squads (and the weapons) to 5/6 or 4/6 means to 83.3..33% or at least to 66.6..66% effectiveness
