This was on another forum I have been active on and it was alot of fun so i thought I would post the starting poston that forum to see if yall would be interested in playin....
The Basics
The basic idea of the comic book draft game is a series of battles between hand-picked teams of superheroes and villains. Each player drafts a group of 8 heroes/villains off a list of possible choices. The teams then square off against each other in round-robin/tournament style play. Each player's team will square off against another player's team in a series of individual matches with the opponents being more or less randomly chosen. For example, if the teams were: (2 heroes per team is not realistic, but it's just to get the idea)
Player 1 - Superman, Batman Player 2 - Captain America, Thor
Player 1 would play against player 2. Superman might fight Thor. And then Batman would fight Captain America. The player who gets the most individual wins gains victory for that battle/round.
There are three categories of player:
Commissioner (Me) - The Commissioner establishes the rules and organizes the game Judge - The judges do not draft a team, instead they subjectively determine the outcome of the battles. There will be 3 judges total, the commissioner acts as one. *Judges will be asked to write a match outcome along with a short explanation of each match-up.* GM - These are the normal players, they draft a team and do battle.

Sign-ups
There will be a maximum of 3 judges and 10 GMs. If we can't get 10, we may go with 8 or 6 or even a lower number if necessary (an even number is preferable). Even if we don't have a lot of players, there's still a lot of fighting to be done with each player having 8 characters. To sign-up to play use the format below:
Name: Position (Judge/GM): Signing-up!
Make sure you read the rules below which describe the game. Once you sign-up as a GM, you will be required to send in your list of draft picks. Instructions will be provided below. Read on!

The Draft
The draft is the first part of the game. The objective is to select the best team of heroes and villains from the available lists. Each player selects 8 characters to compose their team. There are two lists below, a "Normal" List, and a "Power List." No player may have more than 3 characters from the power list on their team.
The most exciting way to do the draft would be to have the players pick round-robin style in a random order through posts. But this would take a long time. To speed things up everyone will simply submit an over-sized list of characters in order of draft preference to me via PM. Then, I will randomize the draft order and figure out who gets who.
So, to draft your team!
1. Send me a PM with Comic Book Draft in the subject 2. In your PM include a list of 25 characters in order of draft preference. Select characters from both the Power List and the Normal List below.
For example, let's say your first choice is Superman, your second choice is Batman and so forth....Your PM to me would look like this:
Quote 1. Superman 2. Batman ...........etc.
Once I receive a PM from every player, I will use the randomized draft order to determine who gets who. For example. Let's say there are two players, Bob and Steve. Randomly, I figure out Bob gets first pick, Steve gets second pick. For the sake of simplicity, let's say they both submitted the list above 1. Superman, 2. Batman.
Bob's choice was Superman. Bob drafts Superman. Steve's first choice was also Superman, so instead he gets his second choice, Batman. And so on and so forth until each player has a team of 8. Because everyone is sending in a list of 25, I think all conflicts will be settled. If not, I will go as far as I can, post the results, and ask for a second set of PMs.
NOTES:
- Because you have no idea which ones you'll be able to draft in advance, you can include more than 3 power list characters in your list of 25. However, you will only be able to get a total of 3. So if I get to the 4th power character in your list, I'll just skip him.
- The draft will consist of a series of rounds. Round 1: Everyone choses a character, Round 2: Everyone chooses again, etc. I will flip the draft order each round. If you had first pick in round 1, you'll have last pick in round 2.
- Think carefully about your order. Put all your top priorities up front. You may get your first choice, and your second character may be choice 10 because 2-9 got picked by other people. Hey, it happens, but maybe you get lucky and get a lot of people you really want.
- Power characters don't necessarily always beat normal characters in battles. Some normal characters may be able to exploit certain weaknesses the power characters have. Additionally, only normal characters are able to use prep time (explained below).
Here are the lists:

The Battles - STEP 1 (The Prep)
Once all players have their teams and the draft is complete, it's time for the first round of battles to begin. How I structure the order of the battles (which player fights who and in what order) will be determined by how many players we get. If we get a large number I may split the players into 2 conferences. If we get a small number I may just do a simple tournament. I'll post the set-up once we get to that point.
HOWEVER, no matter how the overall game is structured, the way an individual round is played will remain the same. Two players will randomly be assigned to match-up against each other. The players teams will fight against each other in a series of individual battles. To prepare for the battle, you submit a PM to the commissioner (me) detailing the order you want your team to fight in, and some other strategies.
Let's say you're a player and you have the following team:
1. Cyclops 2. X-Man 3. Professor X 4. Phoenix 5. Bishop 6. Cannonball 7. Jean Grey 8. Havok
You would submit a PM to me with your team listed just like that, numbered 1 through 8. You can put the characters in whatever order you like. Once the battle starts up, whoever you placed at spot 1 will go up against whoever your opponent placed at spot 1, and so forth.
OPTIONAL STRATEGIES:
Prep Time - You can give Prep Time to any two characters on your team who were drafted from the normal list. You may ONLY give prep time to normal characters, and you may ONLY prep two characters total. Prep time essentially means that the judges will assume that character knew who he would be facing against and had 24 hours to prepare. The judges will determine how the prep time was used. It could be used to devise some sort of device or trap, or to hone a magical spell, anything that makes sense given the character. To give prep time to a character, put (Prepared) next to their name in your battle PM.
Trumping - Trumping means that you are assigning two characters to fight together. So let's say you had Cyclops at slot 2, and Havok at slot 8, and you decide to trump the characters. Now, when match number 2 is called, you will be sending out BOTH Cyclops and Havok against whoever the other player put at slot 2. However, there is a down-side. When slot 8 is called, you'll be sending out no one, and whoever the other player had at slot 8 will automatically win. This is called an "auto-loss."
So if you choose to employ these two strategies and also randomized your slot choices a bit, here's what your PM could look like:
Quote 1. X-Man 2. Cyclops (Trumped with Havok) 3. Professor X (Prepared) 4. Bishop (Prepared) 5. Phoenix 6. Cannonball 7. Jean Grey 8. Havok (Trumped with Cyclops)
Can you give prep time to a character who is being trumped? Yes.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Battles - STEP 2 (The Pimping)
Ok, so all the players have sent in their prep lists. It's time for the Round to begin. In a ROUND, all of the available players will be randomly matched up against one other player to BATTLE. A BATTLE is the series of individual contests between the characters on either players team, called MATCHES.
At the beginning of the round, the GM will post the Battles and the first set of Matches. For example:
Quote ROUND 1 (Match 1) --------------------------------
BATTLE - Bob vs. Steve Match 1 - Superman vs. Batman (Prepared): Can the Great Detective outwit the man of Steel?
BATTLE - Joe vs. Tom Match 1 - Captain America vs. Thor: Will Cap's Mighty Shield be enough to defend against the power of Thor?
And so forth.
Now comes the fun part. Once the GM has posted, up to 48 hours will be given for all of the players to comment on the various matches by posting in the topic. "Dude, Superman would totally beat the crap out of Batman, lol he has super strength, game over." "No way man, Batman is smart as hell, he'd have anti-Superman gas in his utility belt!" This is called pimping. You pimp your character by arguing why he would win. You can also pimp characters in battles you're not involved in. Argue in any form you like, even dig up quotes from comic books and get pictures from the internet showing that you're right (Be a big nerd, c'mon.)
Once the Commissioner has determined enough Pimping has gone on, or 48 hours have passed, its time for the results.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Battles - STEP 3 (The Outcome)
All 3 judges will post the outcomes of all ongoing matches, including who won, and a brief summary of how they think the battle would have gone. *Judges must post results within 72 hours of the conclusion of each matchup* Determining who would win any particular match is a totally subjective thing, and rests completely in the hands of the judges. They may be swayed by the arguments you've made while pimping. They may not. 2/3 judges scoring the match your way earns you the victory.
Here's some ground rules the judges will follow:
1. Unless your character was given prep-time, it will be assumed that this is just a random encounter neither character saw coming. They just meet, piss each other off, and fight. If the characters have met before, they may know a bit about how each other's powers work and thus be able to exploit it. However, if they've never met, it will be assumed they have little prior knowledge of each other (excepting things which are generally thought of as common knowledge: You could argue that EVERYBODY knows Superman's weakness is Kryptonite). If you have a case to make about how these circumstances apply, make it during pimping.
2. When thinking about the battle, the judges will use the version of the character they see in their minds-eye. If you're a judge, and to you, Batman is the goofy Adam West from the 60's TV Show, he's the one you're assuming is fighting. If the Batman you know is the dark, brooding, genius mastermind seen in recent justice league comics, that's the Batman you'll assume is fighting. Many of these characters are really long-standing and have been portrayed various ways. Feel free to pimp a certain portrayal of the character to the judges.
3. If a Judge has very limited knowledge of a certain character, they will be expected to do a modest amount of research and at least google the character and look him up in some comic-book databases or the like. Also, if during the pimping phase one of the players mentions something you didn't know about (I never knew the Flash had that power), don't completely ignore it, consider weighing it in your decision. Judges should try to be fair, but ultimately it's a subjective thing.
4. Prep time will be used in a way that makes sense given the character. If he's a magician, he'll probably put together some spells. If he's an evil mad scientist, he'll probably build some kind of death ray. How much knowledge regarding his opponents weaknesses he will gain from prep time is a subjective matter and depends upon the character and the resources he's assumed to have.
Obviously, the judges will have some biases. Hopefully the fact that there is more than one judge will counter-act this. If not, oh well.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Battles - STEP 3 (Finishing up the Round)
Ok, so the first batch of matches have been pimped and judged. Now, the players will continue squaring off against the player they were randomly matched up against for this BATTLE. Match 2 will be played, etc, all the way up to the players playing match 8. Which ever player won the most matches, wins the Battle.
TIES
If the players have 4 wins a piece, the tie-breaker will be an all-out brawl between both players entire teams. All 8 from player 1 vs. all 8 from player 2. The tie-breaker is pimped for up to 48 hours and then judged, just like a normal match.
So....that's basically it. Now you move on to the next round. This time, Joe might go up against Bob, or etc. As I said, the overall structure and how many rounds there will be will be described later once I know how many players we have
