Issues with Router
«

okay, so the GF decides to get a wireless router setup put in house for her daughter to have internet in her room.. lallala, internt works fine etc.. but i cant play coh anymore.
Its setup thru Time Warner, and its one of their routers... so, i cant logon to my routers page to setup ports etc..
so i did some checking, found out port 6112, 30260 and 9100 seem to be the ports that need to be opened.
I called and had to be escalted up the tier3 support just to open the ports... so i asked them to open the ports... well ya, still not working, i have downloaded the port checker app and i notice 6112 and 30260 are open, but 9100 isnt, i also read 6112 is the main one, but thats open and still not working... so iam guessing i need to call them back and have them open 9100??? this is rather stupid... anyone have any suggestions?

another weird thing..
i can reset the router... when it pops back up and running, i will do the port checker tool, and it states the ports are not open..
i will have to go into the game, and see if it givesme the little green light.. if i logon and see that for a min or so i think its ok... i can then logout and do the port checker and notice 6112 and 30260 are open, 9100 still isnt... so maybe 9100 isnt being used at all?
it seems the router opens the ports if it wants to, and if i do a clean reboot of router, like unplug it, wait 10 secs or so, then plug it back on, it will work, keeps the green light on, but i switch between the VCOH icon and the EIRR icon i have, it will then stop working, like it only lets me logon 1 or 2 times before it starts freaking out??
completely confued.

Its not just a matter of 'opening' those ports.
Because the COH game (their end) does not know which endpoint (your computers in the house, behind the router) to send the gamedata too thats causing the issue.
So picture this: (Complete laymens terms, dont get all technibabble in here!)
COH Servers

{MAGICAL INTERNET FAIRIES}

Your Router

Comp 1 Comp 2
You need to tell the router which computer to SEND those port numbers to. This is called port-forwarding.
The technicians need to know which compy to port forward TO.

Shit I'm pretty sure you could offer the guy a cup of coffee and he'd try to kill you with the mug if you forgot sugar.

That's like offering Beer to fuck the fat chick. It will work for a while, but it's not gonna last. Not only that, but there is zero motivation for the Fat chick to loose weight.

As a side note, where it says 'COH Servers' Im actually meaning whatever other computer you are trying to connect to.
In this case, its probably the other players - but the concept is the same.

As such, you need to set your computer to a static IP that will not interfere with the normal range of IPs handed out by said router.
Then you can tell them which ones to forward it too.

Nope, don't see why you don't have it mgallun,if you reset-ed your router you should be able to logon with the default password and log on, what sort of modem do you have?
ALSO why didn't your gf just buy a wireless router? i hate company provided routers, they are sooo useless D:

its a netgear cg814wg..
if i reset it, it will most likely kill the settings that allow it to be used on the roadrunner internet....

well, i reset the modem and the default id and password works..
so i spent at least 2 hours working on it, giving my pc a static ip, setting up portforwards, evening dmzing the damn thing, same crap... logon, works for the first time, logout of coh, and log back in, connection errors.. not sure what COHs big issue with routers is but its kinda of a hassle.. if nobody else has any suggestions i guess back to regular cable modems for me, i will return this stupid router... but, wont be playing until i get the bogus 100 dollar charge they are giving us for this great setup refunded...

Mmmm you didn't need to change your ip to static i run it on dynamic just fine,Anywho
Have you checked your firewall? Even if its not on and it doesn't have them fowarded on the firewall it will still block depending on what firewall you have...
Also you only need 6112 UDP and 30260 UDP you could just set both see if that'll work

Didn't read the thread but I thought that too. In fact most routers have an in built firewall. I used this website to help me:
http://portforward.com/cports.htm
I just picked out my Router from a list and followed to instructions. I had to set up static IP's and all this bull but was all on this site.
Hope this is of use to you.

Why don't you see if you can just set up a direct connection from your modem to your computer? Then replace the router when you need to have wireless.

Mgallun disable your firewall and see if it works, also check if your router has an internal firewall, make sure your using the highest access account...like on my router theres two accounts 1 Admin and 1 Superadmin
One has access to filters and firewall control
and the other one can access just ports and what not
