Wow. My aunty is going back to New Zealand, he house in Australia has been wiped out. I hope, if it was arsonists who started the blaze, that they get caught.

To give you an idea of what this fire was like

The average speed of a bush fire is 50-100km  at short distance and long distance spotting is 1-2km

this one moved at 1-2 km short and 15km long distance spotting (ember attack)

the heat released at a normal bushfire is 10,000kw/m of fire this one was 60-80k kw/m of fire (thats equivalent to 500 Hiroshima atomic bombs released at once, or enough energy to supply the entire state of victoria for 2 years)

height of the flames normally is 10-20m  and you get close as 80m to the fire, this one was 50m in height and 200m was as close as you could go to fight it.

They had no chance and the speed was unimaginable, one account mentioned a 150 year old mountain ash tree being uprooted and flung nearly 200 meters down a hillside and houses and structures just exploding into flame. gear boxs in cars designed to withstand heat melting on impact.

Hell on earth......

unfortunately, california goes through something similar to this every year. Maybe not in the deaths but in total acreage, its an average wildfire season for us. Our wonderful state never takes cares of the brush and crazy people like to watch things burn.

Just out of curiosity, when was the last time you guys had a bush fire nearby? I agree that the intensity of the fires is pretty damn...well...intense, but long-term brush buildup starts such fires. On the upside if you ever have another one in the next 5 years or something it won't be nearly as crazy.

Still, lynch the bastards who started that fire. That sort of shit is nature's job....when people do it it's called ARSON

Stay safe Smiley
