76mm has higher penetration, less splash and a higher reload time.

If you want to attack armour with a sherman get the 76mm upgrade, it makes you able to tackle armour easier but less able to tackle infantry, it's a trade off.

i know this, but was just looking for the numbers.. alittle dissappointed that its damage is still at 87.5 like the 75mm sherman thou.

Mind you the vCOH balance patch changes implemented in 0.0.2 actually reduce the splash damage reduction given by the 76mm over the 75mm AFAIK.

sigh -

looking at COH-Stats there is no difference in the stats of the gun, the only thing i could remotely see different is the reload for 75mm is 6, while 76mm is 7

the 75 has damage of 87.5, so does the 76mm

i looked at the penetration table there, on the L part 75mm says .83
the 76mm says .838

that page is not helping at all.. it even says the projectile used for both guns is the m3 75mm shell..

so?

Look at the Area of Effect Damage on the right. The 75mm has significantly better values.

ya, i know that, its expected the 75mm is low velocity, more he in the rounds etc..

iam just griping that it looks like the 76mm doesnt have much more tank killing power than the 75.  and the stats on coh-stats provie it.. the only thing i could really see different is at the L penetration table.. where its a whopping .008 difference lol.

Look at the target tables on the wiki. The 76mm has _vastly_ improved penetration against all tanks.

ok, so penetration is better, but the damage the gun causes is what brings down the tanks health right?  so, ok the 76mm has a better chance at penetrating compared the the 75mm, but if it does penetrate, it still only does 87.5 of damage?

correct...  but if you do not penetrate you only cause 15% of normal damage.

Upgunned Shermans should never be your primary AT source as an American player, simply because they will only perform against medium tanks and below and will perform unsatisfactory versus infantry. Anything above is a david vs goliath situation, and encountering 'anything above' is not a rarity as both PE and Wehrmacht have plenty of heavy tanks to go around.

This is why most American players, including myself, use unupgunned shermans primarily for their anti-infantry (and to a lesser extent, anti-vehicle) purpose.
