When I began playing vCoH (about 2 years ago) you could give MGs attack orders. This was deliberately changed due to players with good micro being able to keep squads suppressed on every side of the building, making flanking with flamers etc. impossible.

I, being an axis fanboy, loved this ofc.  Grin

i like the idea of giving the same prioirty to everything so there's no mix up.

Dafuq man, don't ask for proof if you'll refuse it if it's not in your favor, logic fallacy for the bloody win.

Tricks of pwning with a MG42.

You CAN choose what targets your MG42 shoots when its deployed. Right click on the target you want to shoot, after it is suppressed, you can right click on ANOTHER unit which you want to shoot which must be WITHIN your field of fire. It will shift, albeit slowly.

Take note that a misclick = instant undeploy, no matter how fast you click stop. However, if your target is rapidly leaving your field of fire, you can press half for the MG42 to reprioritise and attack whoever is still in the field of fire instead of undeploying like an idiot (like which MG gunner actually undeploys his MG to shoot one rifle squad when there are hordes of them right infront).

To my knowledge, you can't really set who your MG can fire at in buildings. I haven't practiced much with this so I can be wrong.

MG42 set in building really doesn't follow the fire command of who I want to fire even if it had view on it, it simply shoots the building garrisoned by enemy troops.

Eternal is right, I forgot which patch it was, but I know they made it so MGs in buildings can not be given attack orders so that flanking can actually work against even people with good micro.

You cant order MGs inside buildings to switch targets, at all. However you can perfectly fine order it to attack specific targets in its line of sight and firing cone when it is deployed in the open. I use this to target at guns etc. Dont give it a order to attack moving infantry while undeployed though. That fails.

Tetrarchs target grenadiers over 5 health tanks, a lot.
A simple fix would be to set every unit's targetting priorities vs everything to be the same - this way, the unit keeps attacking the unit it first set eyes upon/was ordered to attack, even while moving.

I like this idea it has merit. If its possible it shood be done

Does it work that way? Or does having equal priority means that upon moving the tank, the tank will simply target the nearest target?

Well, only 1 way to find out.

If you have 2 equal priority targets, the unit targets the one targeted first (hence in a 2v2 of two cromwells vs P4s, nothing interfering, the cromwells can focus fire on one P4 while driving around in circles, without trying to switch targets to which is closer/more damaged/has the better skin.
