It's the flu with worse symptoms. Supposedly vaccinations for regular flu work fine for this, so it's not too much of a problem.

They estimate that the incubation period is actually 5 - 10 days, this means that in several days we could be facing massive spread.

Also: WHO increased the alert level to 4

Phase 4 is characterized by verified human-to-human transmission of an animal or human-animal influenza reassortant virus able to cause “community-level outbreaks.” The ability to cause sustained disease outbreaks in a community marks a significant upwards shift in the risk for a pandemic. Any country that suspects or has verified such an event should urgently consult with WHO so that the situation can be jointly assessed and a decision made by the affected country if implementation of a rapid pandemic containment operation is warranted. Phase 4 indicates a significant increase in risk of a pandemic but does not necessarily mean that a pandemic is a forgone conclusion.

The first cases were also from a month ago. This means we've been through three incubation periods already, it's either going to spread rapidly like this week and next week or not at all, and even then, we'll have antimeasures good to go by then (no deaths outside of mexico yet, and all 20 confirmed cases in the US recovered) and everything will be hunky-dory.

Yes, commit suicide quick, before you get the Flu.

You supposedly can die from pneumonia, I didn't... Its a shame it is not sexually transmitted, otherwise it would be bare interesting.

You can die from regular flu, too. I got it when I was a kid. It sucked bad but I was okay.

The reason people are going nuts is it's just as communicable as the old spanish flu, and so far its mortality rate has been over twice as high - we all know what happened with the spanish flu... EVERYONE WAS FINE!

Except 20 to 100 million people died.

i find it interesting so many people in Mexico are dying, and most cases in the US are around the southern part of cali and texas and arizona, thats about it.

the gov't should just go ahead and shut down the border seriously. Teh cases are originating in mexico, this is definitely an issue of national security.

Fuck it Tym! Lets shut down our borders to nations that have the common cold effecting a few citizens shell we? How many HIV patients come to Europe each year for specialised care from the US, should we shut our borders to them because of 'what ifs'. I am sure the common Flu kills many people each year in the US already, border suppression could cripple Mexico.

Get a fucking grip.

It's too late already, it's been diagnosed in major population centers like NYC. NYC is a city of 8 million people living in tight quarters with one another and dozens of intra and international flights daily. The incubation period (time without symptoms) is around a full week. It's probably all over the world already by now, closing borders won't do anything.

We either ride it out fine or we all get infected and live or die or whatever. Containment isn't going to happen, but it should still be fine anyway.

Most of the traffic is illegal? Wow our border security sucks if they might as well just flip a coin and bring 'em in and be right.

As for closing the border, again, it's way too late to contain the virus. Mexico wasn't on the ball and it's fuckin' out and into the world now - we just gotta deal with it.
