Most wehr players know (myself included) that using the Attack Ground order with a stuh42 actually causes it to do more raw damage and splash damage. It also seems to ignore cover while firing at the ground. I was wandering if this actually is considered to be an exploit or is it a bug with the stuhs normal attack order? It seems like it SHOULD have the huge splash and the cover indifference, since its a self propelled howitzer, but I could be wrong.

And tell me please... how are we going to notice if someone is attacking ground or the rifles?

All the manual ground-target does is make it fire at a specific spot to account for lead-time, the projectile behaves the same as if you targeted a unit otherwise.

Honestly, I could swear that the stuh does a fuckload more damage when its firing on the ground, but I could be wrong.

well what ususally happens if you fire directly at a unit, it will try and lead it but if you attadk ground, it'll fire at the spot you point to.

Dafuq man, don't ask for proof if you'll refuse it if it's not in your favor, logic fallacy for the bloody win.

It could be because infantry MIGHT have some kind of dodge bonus while moving against actually taking damage from a StuH shot or some wonky mechanic, but on the whole it's the same general thing, just one is a manual target and the other is a pretty good approximation from the unit AI.

Probably because when it's ground-fired the accuracy penalty the Stuh round gets from being directly aimed at the target is completely taken away.
The StuH has a .5 accuracy penalty while moving.

.6 accuracy vs airborne
.4 accuracy vs rangers
.75 accuracy vs riflemen
.5 accuracy vs 57mm

I'm willing to bet that's the reason ground-fire is much more efficient.

The lowering of the angle of fire made the 'attack ground' function some what redundant when fighting infantry because you're better off microing to keep it alive and the lowered trajectory increased the speed of the shot significantly.

However, you will still find it useful in one-shotting 57mms = ) so long as you position the shot correctly. Takes time and experience, but it can be done.

yeah ground fire is good for slamming 57mms its like when i used to use croc churchills. it was better to tell em to burn the area where you thought the pak gun was and watch the crew burn to in a horrific shot.
