The recent addition of vehicle cover for Commonwealth vehicles has caused a negative side effect. My Cromwell traveling on a road opted to stray from the road if there was a crater. Moving into the crater slowed its move speed considerably.

In another instance a Staghound turned 90 degrees to go around a crater completely.

Far as I know all vehciles always did this. Even when i play CW and americans in vCoH they still travelled slwoly through craters and water objects. at least now they get an accuracy benefit to sitting in them

Dafuq man, don't ask for proof if you'll refuse it if it's not in your favor, logic fallacy for the bloody win.

Craters make tanks go slower, pathing avoids them generally if better terrain for movement is available. Open ground is faster than crater, which are both slower than a road.

I don't see how vehicle cover has anything to do with pathing.  Its simply an ability that gives you - incoming accuracy while in cover.

hmmm?

I don't know, maybe it was a fluke. It was on Ghost Town.

I have noticed my churchils driving into any crater they see while speeding down a road as well.

Because Churchills take a lesser movement penalty from obstacles for some reason beyond my comprehension. They don't mind wading through water or green cover, either.

Thing is, they never used to do it before...

At any rate, the churchil is a BFT(Big Fucking Tank).
It cares not for scenery when it crushes it, or that it's driving through a puddle.

Pathing has nothing to do with vehicle cover.

The vehicle AI usually takes whatever route is fastest (ie driving on a road even if it's not what you ordered them to do).
My assumption would be that even if it doesn't look like it, it'd actually be faster to drive around the cover, rather than through it, even with a crazy-slow turn.

All I can say is that if you see cover coming up along your path, to manually order your vehicle to drive around it along a smooth path, rather than letting the AI try (and fail) to get around it quickly.
Then hope whatever's following you gets 'caught' on the cover you just avoided, and you get away free.

the point is normally a vehilce plans an angled move to avoid the potholes 30 feet before it comes to them.
On ghost town some of the potholes don't exists to the vehicle pathing untill it gets to it at which point it turns on the spot doing all sorts of stupid dance moves and gets reaped in the ass by AT.
