Depends on how annoying the unit is.

For instance those vet 3 AB that drop behind and gib all your Mortar HTs....

Or that KT that just wont die....

I get upset with vet hunting especially on retreating units, manly infantry of course, like chasing bikes and jeeps and using snipers to take out that last man. I used to try and be gracious and let vet go but i"ve run into so many vet huntin azz holes i just gave up and figure all of you are vet huntin so if I can take out your vet it's fucking dead.

Nothing is wrong with it, but at the same time this is a small community and if you are consistantly a dick people will take notice. I target vet units first because people will retreat them faster. but  That said this is a game and vet is meant to die, I dont mind killing gay as shit units down that people retreat at the first sign of a fight(howie crews, callies, gay v3 airborne and rangers). They are just sheparding them and gaying shit then retreating, not fighting with them. There is a difference between shooting the retreating squad a few more times and m8 chasing it back to spawn. In vCOH the unit will come back that game, in EiR the unit is done. It is generally considered bad form to be a dick and chase units.

Which is what I'm saying, the vet hunting I hate is the being a dick and chasing units off the field, or blocking units like moving your tank in front of it so it can get killed while trying to retreat. Sometimes I've seen my 1 vet unit get targeted over a much bigger threat, like my vet 2 marder dying to 2 shermans, m18 and at gun while a KT is shooting at them, or a blob of infantry and the one vet 2 unit getting focus fired even though that unit is in teh back of the blob and not doing anything. It's just the malice that some people put into vet hunting and laughing at you in game when they kill your vet and taunting you etc. Thats' when I get real pissed, that's just not called for.

Are you kidding me?  Of course you target the marder over the KT.  It does more damage than the KT and it dies much faster.  Thats not vet hunting, thats just sound tactical decision making.

And targetting vet before other stuff is good tactics, because people will retreat them much earlier thus taking them out of the engagement.

we only went for the marder cuz the kt was backing up (and getting out of range) so why would we chase the KT and let the marder just peck at us? To be honest it was a strategic decision. If you had a FG42 and one engie flamer charging at you while the rifles were still a tad bit further than the engie which one would you shoot? Please don't tell me you'll focus fire the rifles just because they're the "stronger" unit.

Vet is basically free and there to die, use it as a tool, kill what you can, and don't worry about it dying.

Its a game.

my motto:

If hes brought it out on the field, he wants it to die.

Basically if you dont want your stuff to be hunted, dont bring it out.  I save most of my high vet units for the end of the game, when i really need them (and out of respect since i hate all Vet2/3 starts) and also so i minimise my chances of losing them in a massive fight (since probably half of the offmaps are dropped in the first 10 minutes)

My stance on vet hunting:

Playing against newer players - gentlemans rules, no vet hunting unless someone instigates it first (the newer players)

Playing against pro/leet players - no holds barred, and my vet is PLASTIC!

Shit I'm pretty sure you could offer the guy a cup of coffee and he'd try to kill you with the mug if you forgot sugar.

That's like offering Beer to fuck the fat chick. It will work for a while, but it's not gonna last. Not only that, but there is zero motivation for the Fat chick to loose weight.

actually, i was taking the marder out of the fight and it got chased down and blocked from escaping but whatever. That game was just real frustrating and that just topped it off.

I used to let off any unit except armour.
Now there's a few guidelines I follow :

ALL cloaking units will be vethunted without mercy, no matter if it's a newb, a pro, or a good friend. Cloaked units = dead.
All armor, except tanks from newbs that are clearly going off-field, will be vethunted so it doesn't come back again after getting repaired.
All units from people that I fell do not play honorably, or are just blatantly put - pricks, will be vethunted.
You vethunt me, or my teammates, I vethunt you.
Units that have heavy weapons : LMGs, Shreks, BARs, PIATs - I'll try and catch them for the heavy weapon. If I don't manage to get him within the sector he started running, I leave him running, no point in continuing the pursuit.

My stance on Vet.
KILL EVERYTHING. Once killed a Vet 2 Panther by blocking with a command tank and using a firefly to kill. Cheap but serves the guy right for trying to 1 man army the tank. The guy didn't take kindly to this and called my many names. He did say sorry after the game....Because it got re-rolled.
Last game I JUST got my KT vet2. Came out on the field, and then got mobbed by Flak's and M10's.
Did I cry? Did I Whinge? Did I call the guy an asshole? No...This happens, It's the point of the game, If he didn't kill it, and it got Vet 3 after a while. It's going to come back and bite him on the ass one game.
This is why I reckon people who whinge about vet hunters need to learn to STFU and get in their heads that as soon as their units are on the field its free game.
