Hey guys,

I think the ranger squad should come without two bazooka's and have the ability to purchase them if desired. That way, you have the choice of making an AT squad or a dedicated AI squad. Atm, your forced to take the 80 muni regardless of whether you actually want the zooks, and lets be honest, without doctrine upgrade they suck balls.

So, who would be ok with making the double zooks a selectable upgrade rather then a manditory one? Should the zooks even be able to be a selective upgrade? Few questions for you guys, hopefully we get some thought on responses.

They were bought without bazookas for a while, but it was so horribly OP that they took it out again.
The fact that the squad wouldn't lose a thompson until the squad was down to 3 men was just too much.

they should also cost mun without zooks or thompsons.
rangers without zooks and only thompsons would make then TEH perfect AI imo...
combined with triage..

i know that you have rangers through your reninforcements package pqum, so you dont have a triage.
and i know your double ranger core which rapes

I remember rangers being like this at the start of the mod, and I liked it.

In most situations, zooks are just useless. Now to avoid this problem, I just use mandos for the dedicated AI, instead of rangers, because i just dont want the zooks.

btw, it only looked OP because back when rangers could be bought without zooks, we had no doctrines, and you had ppl like smokaz doing that 10+ ranger co. thing.

We got the doctrines now, so not a problem

Rangers with thompsons only would rape twice as hard as commandos.

giving the squad 2 more garands instead of 2 zooks will do next to nothing to improve rangers AI except that the units combat effectiveness will not be reduced till 2 guys die, and it saves the US player 80 munitions per squad.

Rangers lose first man = still 4 thompsons
Rangers lose 2nd man = still 4 thompsons
= no reduction in AI power.

yeah i know. And paying 140 munitions just to have 2 thompson rangers sacrifice themselves so that the 2 guys carrying the zooks live is bullshit.

Say that after you have had a flame pio squad have their way with your ranger squad.

either way, its no where near as bad as giving those 2 guys without zooks, thompsons.

i haven't played inf doctrine in a while but i used to like the rangers without zooks a lot. imo they are a lot easier to counter than rangers with both ai and at capabilities. why not bring this back even if it means that the munitions cost has to be raised. the four thompsons on a ranger squad are still cheaper than a storm squad with both the stg44 upgrades (and the second one is quite useless tbh). so how about 180 mun for the thompsons and another 80 for the zooks. at least you won't see a lot of double upgraded rangers this way.

i dont understand why it will be so OP bout just thompson rangers, hey Falls are pretty dam powerful with buffs right, atleast they have AT capabiltiies while keeping there AI effectiveness, Rangers would have no AT capabilties.

We went over this several patches ago. Thompson-only rangers were more rape tham commandos.

Thompson only rangers lost noticeable firepower as a third member dropped from the squad. There's no other assault squad that has ever worked like this since other assault infantry dont have the mix the thompson-only rangers had. It was retardedly good, my thompson only rangers could execute grenadier squads on their own not losing a member - then back to the triage. In larger fights losing 2 members and slaughtering 2-3 gren squads meant nothing, and the rangers came back a 3rd time.

When rangers were flexible like this, I basically had a complete company of rangers. Ranger veterancy was ridicolous (before all assault infantry veterancy was normalized) and they manned all kinds of roles in my company: nade rangers, thompson rangers, zook rangers guarding my 57mms. Rifles were merely recrewing and were fielded in a very small amount. Why take rifles, when rangers had fireup.

Imagine having 6 man fallschirm squads with four fg42s and two kar 98 guys having to drop before dmg output was noticeably decreased.. it would be rapetastic, just like the thompson only rangers were.

Rangers are balanced atm, unlike a lot of units. They actually have a well defined role.

unfortunately if you did allow thompsons only to be on these guys you would literally have as many people spamming rangers as airborne.

80 munitions is an amazing price for 2 Bazookas and Fireup, just be happy with that firstly.  A single Schrek costs 120 or 130 munitions, so be happy thats cheap dedicated AT in the first place.

Thompsons are really only an addition.  If the 4 man BAR squad comes i'm sure this argument will end.

Uhm, why didn't they make rangers 4 men and redistribute the healt, if that was the problem?
Rangers are not worth the 330 manpower in my experience.
