hey modders,
Is there anyway of making a simple stand alone version of EIRR ? In other words the new EIRR is so complex that it has become a turn off for those that only have time for an occasional game and get raped because of all the stuff in it now.Its gotten to the point that  abunch of us have dropped the mod beacuse we dont wana have to go through all thae crap to get a competitive army built up.We just want to play the concept of this mod. We where wondering if there could be a simple version made that would have just USA and Wehrmacht in it with no advantages , no doctrine abilities , no off maps and every troop available for usa and german just given from the start, and you wouldnt have to patch it. You would just download the mod and maybe just have a simple build box for your army and then just meet in game, that old concept from like a year ago was just so good to play in its simple form it sucks we cant go back to it.We have a ton of people with us on this and could even work out a donation thing to see this happen.

It's simple to be complex...it's complex to be simple. Too much complexity is very bad. Keep it simple, stupid!

While doctrines are fun, it is true that playing without them would be very enjoyable, less unpredictable, and cut the amount of ridiculous situations by a lot.  I think it would be fun.  There'd have to be some well thought out veterancy rules, as veterancy would presumably be the only thing you gain through fighting.  Maybe a decay on troop XP in some way.

With no doctrinal buffs, or offmaps, I see this simpler version of the game degrading into axis support spam with heavy tanks, and allied elite inf. spam just to keep up.

Well with availability becoming less restrictive and the other things we are discussing internally I do think we will be progressing towards a 'more simple' game. It's true that EIRR is considerably more complex than EIR and while it's a selling factor on some fronts it also ends up steepening the learning curve for newer players.

So anyway, please do continue to discuss this and don't hesitate to make suggestions!

If it was a simple clean cut removing those things, then you are right.

But suppose certain doctrine abilities were kept, and given to each of the three doctrines* by default, rather than as something you choose to get.  Just a few for each doctrine, to get a middle ground of sorts.  You wouldn't develop your doctrine (which is what the complicated thing is) and "balance" would be a region in a much fewer-dimensioned space, easier to achieve one aspect of balance without moving away from another aspect, because there would be less variables.  Every company of a given doctrine would be somewhat similar, therefore each game would follow one set among fewer sets of rules, therefore it would be easier to determine what the problems are.

However, as it would not involve PP/XP grinding, it would probably have fewer players.. generally the only people playing it would be the ones who play only for the enjoyment of tactical battles in EIR rather than the enjoyment of using your developed company to beat someone else's less developed company.  As much as we don't like to admit it, a lot of the reason EIR games are played is to improve your company.

It is, of course, a question of the work involved to have something like this function, compared to the motivation of the workers to have it function.  Generally, supposed mod only happens when someone who wants it to happen does the work.

*(which would be chosen to balance things, for instance granting offmaps to stop support spam)

Including a very large trimming / cutdown / tone-down of the doctrines.
AND Abilities.

Shit I'm pretty sure you could offer the guy a cup of coffee and he'd try to kill you with the mug if you forgot sugar.

That's like offering Beer to fuck the fat chick. It will work for a while, but it's not gonna last. Not only that, but there is zero motivation for the Fat chick to loose weight.

Why don't you collect up your love beads and potpourri and find something constructive to do.
