Is everything incredibly slow? Including boot time, opening menus, etc.?

Its just certain programs... I just ran a game of COh and its fine... But yet MW2 and anythign installed after the time when this first occured seems to be increadbly slow to the point of having to CTRL Alt Delte and even then it will lock up then be able to move around again... Still testing was at work all day.

Taken my Ram settings down to see if its a ram problem it mgiht be,.....

OK this si fucked up... I can run a COH game in 4v4 with all expert comps in Hocwald gap with rain on... But running Hulu and it will not start up, IT runs in the processes but it won;t tcome to the main window... And lahgs the computer oput completly

system restore is not an option

It seems messing with some ram... Has made the iissue less bullshit, but its all the same slow and Hulu, yahoo, and chat programs lock up yet COH and some games work while others don;t...
Its quite odd.

sounds like driver problems.....
sounds like something got corrupted...
id re-install the latest motherboard, graphics and sound drivers (proper uninstall using driver cleaner),
before i would think it was a hardware issue...(microsoft has made that a fact)
for free malware/adware scanners i use ad-aware(lavasoft) and spybot(search and destroy)....(avast virus scanner, free, i gave up on buybullshitones)

I know CoD games have problems with FRAPs programs, and i got similar game crashes from CoD with genenral slowness afterwards from that.

Its something you might have overlooked.

If not, reinstall drivers and/or CoD

Well while tryign to reinstall drivers, Massive crash... After Microsoft notifying me that XP service discontinued back in april and it would cost me, Get this... 59.99 for an answer... Before i found out if the answer even worked.

I called EVGA and tech level 1 support is stupid, the level 2 guys as alwys help out more.

Oh Drivers to my mouse and Keyboard stopped working when i loaded into the windows login screen, but worked in bios... So I am on an Old 76gig raptor i had in a bucket somewhere... UNtill i get my other hard drives back in...

Might stick with this one as my Windows, and just have everythign else on my back up Hds....

Thanks everyone but a format it was... sigh

If you have xp it might be propblem with hdd if xps detects 5 hdd errors it sets it to pio, instead of DMA, it looks like what you are describing go to device menager and uninstal, well fuck it, I googled it to tired to write this myself.

Quote
I don't agree with violent video games. This article on DMA problems happens to come up in google early, and the answer to the question is not quite complete. So I'm going to add what you need to change, in case someone else has this problem. Violence begets violence.

The solution is to remove the controller driver in windows. Restart, let windows redetect the hardware. This resets the options that keep your hardware turned down to PIO. Then edit the registry:
Follow these steps, and then quit Registry Editor:

1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
2. Locate and then click the following key in the registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E96A-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0001
3. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
4. Type ResetErrorCountersOnSuccess, and then press ENTER.
5. On the Edit menu, click Modify.
6. Type 1, and then click OK.

Follow these steps, and then quit Registry Editor:

1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
2. Locate and then click the following key in the registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E96A-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0002
3. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
4. Type ResetErrorCountersOnSuccess, and then press ENTER.
5. On the Edit menu, click Modify.
6. Type 1, and then click OK.

Note The numbered subkeys that are listed earlier correspond to the primary and secondary IDE channels on a computer that contains a single IDE controller. If your computer contains two IDE controllers, the numbered subkeys for the primary and secondary IDE channels for each of the two controllers may be:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E96A-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0002

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E96A-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0003

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E96A-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0004

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E96A-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0005
To verify that you have located the correct subkey, verify that the DriverDesc value for the subkey contains the string value "Primary IDE Channel" or the string value "Secondary IDE Channel."

That's from http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;817472

Well nvm if you formated hdd...
