so if axis tanks are too many and hard to kill(it can be said as op but i think they are in real world)
why can't allies get more resources in battalion to counter the benefits of axis armor?
and more air and arty support

I could choose any wehr doctrine and 5 P4s will fit in pefrectly. You will never see a 5 sherman army outside of armor doctrine.
This is plain nonsense. With and even before the removal of the reload penalty upgunned shermans can stand their own, there is absolutely NOTHING stopping allies from running as many shermans as the axs run p4s. They're practically just as effective against infantry and armour, the only difference is that the shermans are more likely to face dangerous armored opposition (Panther, Tiger, Hetzer) where as the panzer IVs can stand their own against pretty much every tank except the pershing. (and arguably the firefly)

That doesn't make them any less desirable though, Shermans are amazing. (I've been running shermans in this mod since the very beginning so I think I know my game on this :p)

shermans and p4s are both very nice tanks but the sherman gets with all those armor buffs really nasty. if u just add them all up u have 1 badass sherman..

I've gone OBM so the only real doctrine buff my shermans got was NGV. (faster reload) Yet I manage to get high vet shermans all the time, with an average of up to 30 infantry kills and 1 - 2 vehicle/tank kills. (even before I got an extra repair kit and field repairs) You don't need doctrine abilities to be able to use shermans. All you need is good vehicle micro.

There's a few other paths that have excellent abilities for shermans and other tanks but the panzer IV can get that just as well.

I have sent the question to Paul Sutton the WW2 expert

We will settle it once and for all

What I wish to know is whether you would classify the Panther I as a medium tank or a heavy tank based on the classifications of such tank types in the german, british and american army during WW2.

Personally, in COH I consider the panther to be a heavy tank.
It's also priced as such, it performs as such and it needs to be countered as such.

It's not about how was it in real but how is it in game.
It is as Unknown said , panther is a heavy tank

Super heavy tank > KT
Heavy tanks > panther pershing jagpanther tiger
medium tanks> sherman , cromwell , FF , church , pz4 ,hetzer , stug
light tank > m10  , m18

that is my clasification atleast

Jagdpanther is practically a superheavy tank just like the KT.
Stug wouldn't really be classified as a medium tank, a more accurate categorisation would be 'assault gun'/tank destroyer. Same for the Hetzer and the M10.

More! More! Was the panther a heavy tank in WW2 historically, and regardless of this do you consider it a heavy or a medium tank in COH?

i placed jag in heavy tank because it is turetless and thus has disadvantage

stug in medium because it has good armor and penetration is not so great vs it

Thats not how the categorisation works lol.

It's a superheavy tank in COH, it has 1500 HP, amazing front armour and a great gun.
It also has a different icon on the minimap, the same icon as the KT. The KT and the Jagd are the only units with this diamond shaped icon, this indicates that Relic considers the Jagdpanther to be a superheavy tank.

The Stug is an assault gun, not a medium tank. Look it up :p. Good armour and penetration values do not define 'medium tanks' lol.

The panther in COH is a heavy tank because it has more HP and better armour than your average medium tank.

I will make a small comparison:
panther in COH has the same dmg gun as tiger but has longer range , also the frontal armor is better than tigers.
The only thing better in tiger is that it has 300 more hp and can better kill infantry.
What will you call tiger than? half heavy tank ?

panther is a medium tank with heavy firepower and high mobilty
but its side and rear are weak
in my opinion
and i read wwii books about that before
the book says
the m10 fires a shell (76mm)
and the panther is dead

This is not about what your book says, it's about what the units are in the game. Wink

When the panther is considered as medium tank of ww2 what is the sherman? A light vehicle?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ZYWp5zb1Fo

In the axis army the panther was a medium tank but overall it can be considered as heavy tank.

Meh, 2 pages later....

The Panther in game is between heavy and medium tanks.
It has good frontal armour, good speed and a nice gun.
But the HP are not so great and its side armour sucks.

In WW2 it is a medium tank:
Good gun, good frontal armour, good speed.
Crappy side armour, lots of technical difficulties, material got overused rather fast.
The germans classified it as medium, doesn´t matter what the others say.
(Realy, who would go with the declaration of the sherman being a bi*** tank??
Or the M10 being "Flackmeat", which is what I called em in blitzkrieg after loosing around 10 M10s and 4 M36s to a Wirbelwind ^.^)

To gamesguy2
Nice post. The Sherman was a very good tank and extremly versatile but that was also thanks to the huge ammount of people and materials availible to the US the whole war while other countries had far bigger problems. Most german armour by ´44 was not of the planned quality and things like tungsten rounds were very low for the bigger guns.
Personally I would go with the Panzerkampfwagen IV as the best tank of WW2, the most underrated workhorse.
Hm, the Tiger II was not realy usable, in a breakthrough company a Tiger II company would be close to unstoppable with the proper support. But a slow Tank with technical difficulties and hard to maintain on the defense is not realy helpfull. It is still cool looking though Tongue
