first off, Band of Brothers is not trash, its a true story that is very well portrayed about one of the most decorated units of any war, let me remind you all of Bastonge.

anyways, a Bridge too Far is awesome... as is Battle of Britian and what about the longest day?Huh

Kokoda

Australian's showing the rest of the word how fucking hard we are by fighting in the worst terrain of World War 2 and wining where everyone else failed.

Seems like a good movie i guess.

I will see it, but im afraid its one of those movies where the australians will be the real heroes and the axis will just be looked at like they are not human.

yes very ture it starts out like it might be good but then the hole movie ends up them just walking around in the forest doing nothing and talking and then the fighting  scense are redicules like their just walking a guy gets shot and they all huddle around him like not even worrying about the guy that just shot him, and ofcourse the jap  just magicly dissapers. such a lowbudget movie.

soo...like the US was better you mean?

I know what the japs did but i also know what the US did. I mean to give japs that did horrible tests on humans amnesty becouse they were willing to share their results.

Besides its wrong to say all japs were like monsters.

How about the two cities the US destroyed filled with children, old people etc.

So i call bs on that post!

I dont think all japs in ww2 were monsters its just true or not I associate them with torture and cutting up people with swords.. which seems savage.

On the use of atomic bombs against the japanese, well historians can argue over that one. Would the japs have surrendered without the use of this? Would the ground war in Japan have been a better alternative?

I've seen several documentaries about hiroshima.. about the human suffering. Nothing excuses the killing of civilians, but human wars have long lost their gentleman touch. People are shooting rockets from flying drones in the air and pressing buttons to kill. There's no chivalry anymore.

That said it might be allied propaganda surviving even today giving us this skewed perspective on japanese warfare in ww2.. associating them with killing and torturing prisoners etc.

Suicide bombing is considered great heroism by certain groups of today, for example.

And 'Conspiracy'. Please tell me somebody here has seen conspiracy.

I also enjoyed Valkyrie. Say what you will about Tom Cruise, but he's a good actor and did real well in that movie.

I love Conspiracy! Kenneth Branagh is a genius. However, I have to disagree about Tom Cruise. He speaks German for like 45 seconds in that film, and doesn't make the slightest bit of effort to attempt an accent. He is a great movie star in stuff like Mission Impossible I but doesn't put in the effort required to be "a good actor". I did think Nighy, Branagh, Kretchmann, and Wilkinson were phenomenal, so I did enjoy it a lot.

Tom cruise is a massive weirdo, but you can't really say he didnt do a good job of portraying the one-eyed nazi rebel. Btw did anyone notice the hilarious casting of Rommel in that MOVIE? He seemed like a nice old uncle.

Note Rommel is not technically portrayed in the film at all. That's supposed to be an anonymous general, probably because they didn't want to distract from the story.

I also have to defend Tom Hanks, because everyone is biased. Just because BoB is pro Jewish doesn't detract at all from its quality. (I realize you asked about movies only) I have seen what combat can do to different people and he really captured the emotions and nuance of that.

Stalingrad - Dogs do you want to live forever ?

Pretty good movie.

You can watch it here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PtTfMhb8lxc

http://www.amazon.com/STALINGRAD-Dogs-want-live-forever/dp/B0000646UO

Btw, this movie from 1958, black and white, its the original Stalingrad - the 2nd one is a remake, they are quite different, worth a watch if you are into WW2 movies.

You can also watch Tour of Duty, excellent tv-series about war in Vietnam, really good even tho its not WW2 its still very very awesome. Pretty realistic, nice battle scenes, good storylines, people do get killed and shot up pretty bad, kind of a band of brothers is what these guys develop amongst eachother etc.
The entire first episode is on youtube.
See the trailer here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0z6fcd--354
Should really check it, 3 seasons long, awesome.

There is also an excellent WW2 tv-series from like 1962, mostly black and white aswell, but it is very good. Germans talk german and good fighting scenes. Its called Combat!.

Check out an episode here, it starts with a 3 min battlescene, germans attacking US soldiers in a town, its good shit, check it out !
