Question: How to make map smaller?
remove open field in forest on the right
Remove most of the forest and part of open field
reduce length and only a bit of the width.

the map is currently 25% wider than all other 4v4 maps.

it needs to be smaller and i can do that in some different ways,

1: i could simply go easy way and remove the open field thats on the right side of the map.

2: or i put some more work in it and try to remove some part of the forest together with some of the field so i still get 25% removed.

3: i could also make it a bit less wide but still about 10/15% wider than common maps, instead i could reduce the length and make it something like tanteville.

renember: if i remove 25% that means the entire middle forest or the entire field on the right.

heres a quote from other topic to show how map is right now:
alright, salentijn castle is not getting a lot of plays and im working on it to solve some problems it has.

what i have done so far:

red area:
forest has all its random hedges removed and has been opened up alot. i could open it up even more, still deciding.


blue spawns:
moved start 6 that was there with 7 to the left so its together with start 5.


yellow town area: little circle: made hole in hedges bigger so vehicles can get trough.
big circle: hedges removed and replaced by building and green cover walls.



other things i can think of:

general pathing issues, i tried to fix some small move blockers around the map, but fact is that this map just needs alot of objects.

lag: big 4v4 map with alot of shit on it. i dont know how to fix this, i guess just tell the ppl with bad pc to lower their graphics before the game starts.

anything else?

Move Spawn 8 and 4, then cut of that forest path.

Also, look at path finding,

i dont think those clothlines are move blocking, will check. pathing is indeed quite bad, shall fix that too (its already a bit better than on the version u got there)

salentijn size: 480 x 448 = 215040

abbeville size: 608 x 384 = 233472

so in fact its smaller than a 3v3 map, ofcourse it componsates coz its square. but then again there are alot of groves and water on this map that reduce size again.

the problem of big maps are that you have all your slow support weapons, so if you lose some units it takes some time to get to them, and before you there they get already overrun by enemies.

also if 3 players suddennly attack 1 guy it takes forever for his teammates to get there.

Then, remove some singel hedges, those are good for CW, but... the Germans wont go in there =P

so il do that:

blue: forest
red: move field to left
black: dead zone

ofcourse it will be a bit longer again.

Sounds like better gameplay to me than 1 front bocage style battles.
If you make the middle sectors bigger then you can still protect them from further back if you have to fall back and wait on extra units.
The 4v4s I played it usually was too crowded and no way to get around peoples camping positions.

Ok, never played those maps myself or played this one. I might agree with you all if I had, dunno.

Just thinking about it I realise I find it more fun playing maps where there are still open ways unguarded where you can go thru and get behind the enemy and suprise them. In most maps there is usually always an ATG or something guarding the possible ways of approach. Especially in 4v4 its so crowded, there is no way.
Even in the popular Tanteville there is hardly any room to do this. Its one of the better maps but im starting to dislike it more and more, most of the time its just 1 front and trying to move around the enemy positions is very risky and will most of the time fail. Their teamm8s can easily help own you since they are so close together if not in the same sector, plus their spawns are very close.
Which means it ends up being a 1 front battle again, with ATGs/PAKs/MGs covering every area and the rest of the units trying to break thru it, no real chance of cutting off the enemies sectors either. Just gets kinda boring imo, especially since im playing PE mostly and they are not made to sit still.
