its better cuz of splash dmg. where the 76 can hit 1 maybe 2, the 75 will always get 2 and sometimes more.

The Sherman has much greater splash damage and accuracy against infantry. The Firefly has better penetration vs Axis tanks, and a greater range than the Sherman.
Think of it this way: the Sherman's gun (both the 75 and 76mm) is more like a Cromwell's gun, while the Firefly's gun is more like an AT gun.

Now, the difference between the 75 and 76mm Sherman gun is a bit different: the 76mm penetrates almost twice as much as the 75 vs Axis tanks, but has a smaller splash (making it slightly worse against infantry, and a 60 Munitions cost.
