So, a bunch of Relicnews Dolts got me hooked right into the 4x Space Game and I must say, the hours just seem to disappear from the day as I am enthralled in my Morrigi empire. Something about it just seems to make me spend quite a bit of my spare time basically, just staring at my planets watching my fleets shuttle across the stars and waiting for the right moment to launcher an attack on my neighbours.

anyone else here playing it? I know its a couple of years old.

I played it for days on end a few months back. It is a really well done game. Matches just seemed to take ages to get through(on my other vent we routinely[and i mean like every day/other day] playing a normal matchup for 12-16 hours. Zuul and Human were just so destructive in our games. Zuul for it's aggression and slaving(kills planets effectively early on-when no one can kill planets) and Human because they spread like the plague in the start of a match.

If I wasn't so starved for space with my HDD going down I'd still have ti installed. I kept the files though so when I get my 2nd drive up I can go back into it.

Coming from a Master of Orion background though I was highly disappointed that you could no land troops on an enemy world to invade it. You actually have to kill it off and then recolonize it and that doesn't make much sense to me. Hence the very long matches - any progress you do make is just overshadowed by the endless grinding of industrial war machines(which is the feel they wanted)

The Grind is long that is true, as today I played for about 8 hours straight with another Relicnews Moderator and we're not even close to finishing the game, mostly due to him having an AI rebellion and losing some of his fleets and me getting into a war of attrition with Humans and Morrigi (not good due to expensive ships). Still, it's quite fun to just lose yourself in the game and not realise how much time has actually passed.

Will be more fun with more human players though.

When we did our games we had 4-6 real people on average. once as high as 8.

we needed to set the timer to something low just to see progression. I think the real slowdown is in conquering an enemy empire. It just takes a while. Also if each person goes into control the combat it can take quite a while per turn

The saving grace of the long game time has to be the ability to save the multiplayer game and pick it up where you left off though

Sins blew chunks. Mostly cause Stardock was an asshole. But sins combat was too haphazard and system jumping.

Sword of the Stars(SotS) is a traditional 4x game which is turn based. The combat is real time though and all things considered much better then Sins space combat. In SotS you can target component pieces of enemy ships to disable weapons or engines or even command sections. Targeting a Command ship in an enemy fleet reduces the amount of ships they can have on(essentially field population)

Have to agree, after playing Sins and GalCiv2; SoTS is just a better game overall. You're not always having to skirt around systems with the silly jump system in Sins or GalCiv's lack of multiplayer. The game just makes you feel like your running an empire, and when it is running like a well oiled machine with trade, colonies and fleets rolling around the map; you feel like a god... Until you realise you forgot about the Zuul.

Game was awesome. My favorite part of it was how the tech tree was done.

How it was mostly chance? I both like it and dislike it; because rolling no shields sucks.

Handy resource here

http://chariot.nickersonm.com/ANY_TechTree.html

I just hated getting to late game and not getting Accelerator Amplification. the Railguns those ships have are truly massive.

FYI when fighting Zuul researching Translate Zuul allows access to the 'War'  mission section.

Yeah, I have that tree booked marked. Researching all the xenology tree makes fighting other races easier.

I loved this game so much, played it endlessly until I understood it all and needed to return to life!
