To those who have applied or haven't, the World of Tanks people have provided keys given away from two websites.  Just go to one of these two sites and click CLAIM KEY to get the invite code (note: make sure to COPY AND PASTE IT SOMEWHERE before navigating away, as it will NOT give another key and you are unable to get the old one back if you didn't).

http://www.freemmogamer.com/2010/07/world-of-tanks-beta-key-giveaway.html

http://www.omgponies.info/massivelyCodes/index.cfm?fuseaction=home.getCode&codeInfoKey=51

Once you got your key, go to the official site (link provided) and fill in the info along with your INVITE CODE:

http://game.worldoftanks.com/registration/

After that you will get an email to confirm the account and download the client.  Gameplay will go live on the 8th, but the client is 1 gig (taking me 20 minutes to download) so you get get that out of the way.

For info on the game, it's pretty much a WW2 tank MMO (free to play when it goes gold) and will cover all tanks from 1930s-1950s I believe is what is said, so there will be Sherman Jumbos, King Tigers, Maus, Pershings, etc.  Love to see you all there, and hell we can all play our fantasy of having the tanks we WISH we had in EIRR, heh.

On top of that, the game will use a combat system similar to Company of Heroes, with realistic shot calculations, armor thickness, speed, etc... also will allow customization such as upgunning shermans, adding improved barrels for Tigers, changing armor or engines and suspensions, etc.  Definitely a must look for anyone who loves semi-historicalness without necessarily having one-shot kills (ultra realism but makes for a bit skewed game for the allies, heh).

Are there any machine guns in the game?
Tanks have machine guns installed on them, but as long as there is no infantry, there’s no need to use them in battles, because even the most powerful machine gun is not capable of penetrating armor of a decent tank. Infantry will be implemented further on.
Fail.

300+ tanks, infantry will be featured in clan battles if anything during the campaign/battle map, but otherwise they're sticking with getting all the tanks to be like their real life counterpart, which from what I've read of some English gaming previews, all the tanks act and behave uniquely and really show their stuff.

Best company trailer of the game, game engine and gameplay/customization shown:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hJd9iCbpwuI

Also there are 'classes' of tanks in the game so the super heavies don't strictly dominate.

Light Tanks - Fastest tanks, will have best 'radio' equipment to scout and relay information to your team, as what you sight/see is not necessarily sent and marked to your team. The Stuart/Chaffee would be this type of tank.

Medium Tanks - Good speed and armor, doesn't excel in great armor or great speed but has a little of both. The sherman and pershing tanks fall into this category.

Heavy Tanks - Heaviest tanks in the game, shit tons of armor and very large guns, but are super slow.  King Tiger would fall into this category.

Self-Propelled Guns - Artillery such as priests and hummels, in-game they are pretty much treated as snipers, able to pick off tanks from across the map, but need a light tank to provide a visual to do so.

Self-Propelled Anti-tank guns - Tank Destroyers, these would include the M10, M18, Jackson, etc.  Have great speed and very powerful against tanks with longer range, but have some sort of weakness to offset power (either weak armor or lack of turret like a stug). Of note, they have a Stuart, open topped Tank Destroyer that Spartan is aiming for that has a 75mm upgun...

And these are just the possibilities.  Link below here for a list of tanks making an appearance (also of note, the T34 Calliope is considered a heavy tank, I think because of the use of the rocket racks to own tanks).

American Tank Tree - http://game.worldoftanks.com/media/uploads/tech_trees/full_american_tree.jpg

German Tank Tree - http://game.worldoftanks.com/media/uploads/tech_trees/full_german_tree.jpg

Russian Tank Tree - http://game.worldoftanks.com/media/uploads/tech_trees/full_soviet_tree.jpg

British Tanks make appearances as Premium tanks for some of the factions (and also captured tanks like the US Panther) can be brought through the store, as the game is free to play and this is how they will get some income on the game (actual British faction is going to be implemented post-release).  Note that none of the premium tanks will equal the power of any of the top tier tanks, but offer a stop-gap measure to preview what a certain tank tree is like or access unique middle class tanks (the Sherman 5 Tulip is featured as a premium tank because of its two single-use rockets, but of course it won't match a firefly that one has to level up to).

I remember .50 can penetrate Italy and Japanese tanks.
The marder crew, mg gunner on the turret.
so mg is a must for tanks.

Are there any clans in the game?
Clan battles will be implemented with the start of World of Tanks open beta test. Every clan can include up to 100 peolple.

...Shall we make a little clan in the game so we can all stick together? and maybe have a couple clan wars to show off our 1337 Micro Cheesy

Will there be restrictions such as clans can only be one nation? Because if that's the case then we might all be pretty divided.

From what I read I don't THINK so, the clan overall will have to pick a nation they favor though (so the clan would fight for the US or Germans or Russians).

Regular non-clan battles will have mixed tanks, so you could see an army of T34s backing up shermans backing up a single King Tiger on one team.  And your garage can store multiple tanks, so I could have an M7 Priest, a Sherman Firefly, and two modified Panzer 4s, for example.
