Give me an English phrase that means exactly the same thing as ad hominem and I'll stop using it.

Just say "personal attack" its the same thing.

It's not though, you can make an argument and a personal attack at the same time. Ad hominem would be when you make a personal attack, and then based on that personal attack don't make an argument because you feel whatever you attacked them with invalidates their argument (for example they're new).

It kind of annoys me at the immaturity when people make personal attacks along with their arguments but I don't really care, ad hominem is what makes me rage.

Its not immaturity, merely human nature when someone does not agree with what you believe
