Imagine if you have an MG setup behind a tank wreck (as cover), and the tank wreck is higher than the MG firing height. Graphically it looks like the bullets are deflecting off the wreck and mostly not hitting the target.

My question is, is this only graphically shown, or do those deflected bullets actually cause no damage to the unit being fired on? Or does it graphically show deflections, but statistically the hits still count for damage?

P.S. This doesn't only happen with wrecks, but any cover that could block the bullet path.

Myst can correct me, but i believe all those that rolled a hit will hit, however because bullets blocked the bullets that rolled a miss wont have a chance of hitting.

or this could all be in my head and what i said is 100% false. so take it only face value ^^

I feel like it bullet penetration has something to do with how much of a chance "a hit" has to penetrate the wreck, and then hit its target.

Just guessing though

I think Demon is actually right. Makes sense, specially with how the game engine works with rolling miss' and still hitting Tongue

If the MG bullets have the "projectile" chararastics like tank shells, artillary shells, mortar shells.

Although im guessing they do.

From memory of a similar topic before those deflections are actually reducing the efficiency of your weapon. Small arms in COH that miss and come into contact with an entity can still hurt it. This has been shown by  putting a camouflaged sniper between infantry and an MG. The MG, although not able to see nor directly target the sniper, can hurt him. So standing in cover is important.

Yes, it does reduce the efficiency of the HMG in terms of how many rolled misses hit the target anyway.

However - have in mind that unless you're at something like medium/short range - this is probably not really that much of a detriment, so you shouldn't REALLY worry about it.

Not to mention that it works both ways - rifle bullets that miss and could hit your crew will also bounce off the wreck.

TBH I prefer sandbags, same cover offered and they dont get lolwtf 1 shotted by a stray zook shot or retarded schreck suicide vs. garrison/cover in general. Always nice when your nice green cover goes 'poof' and you get vaporized by [intimidating unit name].

It was kind of a pointless discussion.
