I wouldn't say it's necessarily better. IMO LoL is more simple and straightforward, easy to learn and hard to master. HoN is considerably more complex, at least that's how it came across for me.

It depends on your preference more than anything. Personally I don't think for example that 'deny' is a good gameplay mechanic. Try them both and see which one you prefer.

Hon is more complex. The depth of actions is there because of the ways you can manipulate the game.

Huge differences in HoN are:
You don't really want to use Mana(skills) on creeps
Towers will rape you(different aggro mechanics)
You lose gold for dying
a random rune spawns every 2 mins in either the top of bottom part of the river.

Ohh and HoN's jungle actually makes sense, none of that bushes crap

Yeah, they're different. You have to try both to find out which is better for you, or if you even like this sort of thing at all. These differences listed in this thread are meaningless unless you see them yourself.

Let me know when you guys play some games: my username is Unkn0wnz

These types of games are best played in team, so I reckon I'll be able to enjoy it more then.
Also, I must say though that HoN is much more optimised than LoL. It's frustrating sometimes how I can get framedrops in a relatively 'cartoony' game like LoL. HoN has better graphics and is better optimised, but I'm not a huge fan of the style personally, when you get used to the more colourful LoL, HoN feels depressing Tongue

And when you get used to the dark and grim style of HON you never want to stop! no, but seriously, LOL looks kinda faggy and did they have to come up with a name that coincidences with the most used abbreviation ever?

I also hate that new fagget announcer in HON, is there no way to disable it? Unreal Tournament announcers would be badass, ima get that.

Sharks are not monsters Henley, they are cute, cuddly and misunderstood. They love humans. sometimes they love TOO much. They love people so much that sometimes their kisses separate people into two flailing pieces which are consumed by other sharks in a frenzy of peace and joy.

Yeah well LoL feels childish =P

Also, DotA2 will have the advantage of being created by a proper game developer. Both S2 and Riot Games did a pretty good job, but considering the graphics and relative simplicity of the mechanics, the game engines have insane system requirements. It bugs me even if my computer can run both without even warming up.

I got so bored of HON and LOL, i mean its gearbased not skill based gameplay and when the goal of the game is to go up one path over and over again...

Well from my experience MOBA games are pretty much glorifed rock-paper-scissors matches at the higher levels anyways. Everyone knows the strengths and weaknesses of their favoured champion, it's just a matter of hoping the champion you picked properly counters the opponent's champion.

While their are strong counters to certain heroes this is an oversimplification. At the higher levels of play the Hero select is a rotating system.

The Team leader of each side gets to Ban 3 heroes from the match, Alternating between teams(1 ban,1 ban 1 ban, etc... until each team has banned 3 heroes) Then the teams pick the heroes in a 1-2-2-2-2-1 order. (in HoN thats 1 Pick for the Legion, then 2 for Hellbourne, then 2 for Legion, etc...) This tries to balance the ability of First picking a hero with the ability to Last pick a 'surprise' hero.(the enemy team cannot respond to the pick because it's the last pick)The last pick is a strong thing because you know exactly what the enemy team has picked.

Like most games, straight up teamwork is what wins usually. Still the game type is incredibly frustrating because a weak team mate can mean a lost game and because of the skills of heroes they usually fit certain archetypes. You may be against a Hero who blows chunks early in the game but whose skills are percentage based, which means he scales really well into the late game where numbers become higher. This means failure to shut him down early on can lose you the game in the long run.

I was more talking about LoL, where nobody sees what heroes the opponents are picking until the game has already started. Regardless, I detest those games these days anyways. They quickly turn from fun to excruciatingly painful when you get a bunch of "pros" on your team who freak out at you for not mathematically optimizing your entire playstyle.  That does not constitute a fun game in my opinion.

You do, but only in ranked games. And in LoL champions themselves don't matter all that much, it's their 'class'. If you have a solid balanced team of 5 champions it doesn't matter what the enemy throws at you, it'll come down to skill. (Sure some champs are better in their class than others, but it's still far from 'rock paper scissors')

Yea you either have to find a bunch of friends or a clan that's mostly relaxed people and avoid having too many assholes on your team or be one of those assholes yourself =)

It's quite hard adapting from LoL imo, I have a hard time learning the new heroes and even recognising the champions ingame.
