People overrate boots. My team once cried about how I didn't have boots for like 5 minutes. They shut up when I was 14-2-6.. still without boots.

Yea well boots are obviously not a starting item, but in most cases a first or second "proper" item =) Usually only after HotBL, Blood Chalice or Power Supply.
On the other hand, Slayer is only part of two items. Doombringer which is only there for laughs and Savage Mace which is only useful for True Strike, but you have to be against someone with serious evasion.

there are 2 items which are definite NON starter items.
Marchers and Bottle. If you ever start with those...
Boots are important for most heroes going more then 5 mins without marchers is perfectly fine. I've played full length matches without any form of boots before but only on certain heroes. It certainly wasn't ideal but sometimes it happens. A finished boot item is a very valuable thing and should be among the first few things you complete

Well that won't happen until we get these guys out of the 1300-1400 bracket they fell into off the start.(I get 0 or 1 MMR for a win currently)
But their MMR is steadily increasing. my current MMR on my account is like 1560 so if it was just me and you We'd clear 1600 fairly quickly I'm sure
