Your such a fool.  You say owning a computer, having software is not a right but a privilege; that is CRAP.  I will grant you this.  Its is not a RIGHT to own a computer and play EA games.  However, its not a privilege either.  A privilege means you are required by law (not a fucking contract) to register or pay a fee to the government.  What the EULA is a commerce thing.  Like bartering in the most basic sense.  You don't have to take a test or pay a fee to use a computer now?  Nope.  Well for you folks in the EU maybe, but not in the USA.  Granted you have a choice to buy it or trade it or do nothing at all.  However, the terms for the purchase cannot violate your basic rights and any other laws on the books (which in turn also can't be used to violate your constitutional rights too); like the right to privacy in your home.  So its neither.

Take this comparison.  Just because you agreed to a contract where you are enslaved for the rest of your life does not make it legal.  In fact, its quite not legal; even if you knew what you were doing.

So get it right, but really, it just will probably mean that I won't be buying BF3 if I have to deal with any ORIGIN shit..  I'll just rent the game via gamefly to play on my PS3.  Nothing on there I give a shit.

In another note, tyranny does not happen overnight.  Its like the tide; the next thing you know your underwater getting taken out to sea.

On a personal note, I don't need anymore DLC software providers like Origin to buy games.  Granted Steam got away with it with HL2, but its too late in the game for EA to pull shit like that..  Nobody want their shitty software mucking shit on your computer anyways...
Privilege; NOUN

: a right or immunity granted as a peculiar benefit, advantage, or favor : prerogative; especially : such a right or immunity attached specifically to a position or an office
See privilege defined for English-language learners »

Examples of PRIVILEGE

Good health care should be a right and not a privilege.
We had the privilege of being invited to the party.
I had the privilege of knowing your grandfather.
He lived a life of wealth and privilege.
It is evolving into an elite institution, open chiefly to the well-educated few. In short, marriage is becoming yet another form of privilege. —Barbara Dafoe Whitehead,

We need an English lesson here

priv·i·lege

1.a right, immunity, or benefit enjoyed only by a person beyond the advantages of most: the privileges of the very rich.

2.a special right, immunity, or exemption granted to persons in authority or office to free them from certain obligations or liabilities: the privilege of a senator to speak in Congress without danger of a libel suit.

3.a grant to an individual, corporation, etc., of a special right or immunity, under certain conditions.

4.the principle or condition of enjoying special rights or immunities.

5.any of the rights common to all citizens under a modern constitutional government: We enjoy the privileges of a free people.

so....why does all of this matter of bf3 and me3 are going to be 2 of the best games to get?

if you really want them to change anything, arguing amongst yourselves wont fix it. get a petition together and show them how unhappy you are. numbers work, mouths dont.

Yeah it does. Remember MW2? No pc dedicated servers? fans put up a fuss, black ops has dedicated servers, so does mw3 and they're better off for it.

lol your wallet amounts to shit when EA will make obscene money from BF3 sales regardless. Try getting a significant amount of gamers to agree to NOT buy and play one of the most hotly anticipated games of the year. It can't be done, and it won't be done for precisely the reasons both you/tym AND smokaz said. Most gamers don't understand precisely WHAT those EULAs entail and if they did, they wouldn't care because they "have nothing to hide", 'slippery slopes' be dammed (except for the mass quantities of my little pony porno they might have on their hard drives).

I will more than likely end up buying and playing BF3 as well because... well, because it's fuckin' BF3. There's almost no way for it to possibly be bad. I mean... did you SEE those fuckin' gameplay trailers? Show even the staunchest, most militant civil libertarian that footage and watch their beliefs vanish faster than a car stereo in the ghetto.

ME3 I could give a shit about. Fuck those games.

Until EULAs start demanding people pledge their first born sons to serve in some kind of future dystopian corporate army, most people simply aren't going to care.
Though... It'd be really fuckin' nice if they would ASK if they could collect information and didn't FORCE you to let them as a condition of playing the game AFTER you've already paid for it. Would win them some good points in the "not a jew" department.

Yea, good luck trying to fight corporations when 90% of the consumer base (and the general population) exists solely of fucking idiots.

No, the course is clear! Players have to make it visible to EA and other companies who push the bar that it's not acceptable, I want to buy a game, not a game and a marketing investigation centred on my person. If you want to make money off my interests you better give me incentive for it beyond me already paying for a supposed game product.

Public space is under assault from commercialism every day. This is a fight which has way too few members on the defending side. Corporations have no moral entitlement to spread their advertising to every aspect of society. I don't wanna see neon signs everywhere. I don't want paper ads in my mail. I don't want pop-ups everywhere. I don't want a free campaign offer for somethign else with the product I just aquired.

I'm at the point now where I'm considering writing down all my political aspirations and form a hopelessily outnumbered but at least enthusastic party Tongue

I completely agree Smokaz, but the fact that more than half of all the consumers are generally mindless drones, and do not care about any of this as long as they can get their products, kind of countermands this sort of thing. I don't think it's entirely bad now, but the day will come when corporations finally go over the lmiit and throw consumer privacy and well-being to the wind. Only time will tell I guess.

And to AMPM and his license to drive shit.

I think he needs to understand what a license really is. It is permission to drive on a PUBLIC roadway. Lack of a license does not prevent you from owning, or even using said vehicle on your own PRIVATE land.

But unless im willing to use EA's license im not ALLOWED to use my OWNED game (as i have a hardcopy, i fucking own the fucking right to it) on my PRIVATE computer.

I am not upset by people not knowing, it perhaps saddens me a bit, or makes me depressed, sometimes cackle manically. But when stuff is laid bare, and people just chew grass 1/21 slower for a split second before returning to no attention mode it provokes me, and it should provoke anyone who still have any faith left in modern political systems actually being movable by average joe.

You fail to understand that you don't own the game, you still only own a license to use their software that they provide you on a disk. If you owned the game you could legally make copies and distribute them as well as gaining revenue from your owned share in the game and IP.

You own a license. One that you use over the internet which is using their private server systems to set up multilayer and stat tracking.

If you don't like it, buy the game, crack the DRM, and play at home on your private computer single player.

Its really simple, you don't own anything.

Saying that nobody owns anything is kind of extreme, and besides, the difference between ownership and a license is not as black and white as you make it out to be.

if you really believe that, then you are well and truly a dumbass, and even defending it makes you a tool

Also to note, that while it depends on the country/court you are in, EULAs have not been proven LEGAL or can otherwise be enforced, just most people don't know/understand.

I believe its Germany that enforces a must agree before purchase deal which generally means EULAS like EA's are invalid.

BTW dont take that as a personall attack, but when you literally support the increasingly crappy/generic games protected by increasingly invasive and hostile games, well you deserve to be taken out and shot

Eh, I've given up hope already. Though it's too easy to blame the system, the people could easily change the system (it's a democracy after all) but most just don't give a damn.
