I mean don't get me wrong, Day Z is fun in its current form. Just I don't see it lasting much farther. You should watch a stream of somone playing before you make the decision to buy it. You should also consider that yes, it could be put onto another engine and the work for Day Z on ARMA will stop.

The main issues right now that I see with Day Z that are fixable are

- More reliable servers, many players get stuck on loading thier character data, and can happen on most of the servers they go on
- Getting spawned in debug zone. Seems to be a lot less common issue. Usually end up getting killed, or stuck, there. I personally had a character with roughly 80 minutes worth of items built up and I ended up being forced to suicide, causing me to loose all of them.
- Loosing items on becoming a bandit (Loose too much karma) due to model change.
- Becoming a bandit because you defended yourself against some noobs spamming makarov rounds at you
- Not being trusted by anyone because your a bandit Sad
- Small town loot seems to suck dick. Sort of a minor issue and has advantages that could make you actually favor this. Small towns don't have much loot worth getting. You can search a whole minor town and find only ammo but no weapons. The advantages are that many more serious players will be forced into the major towns like Electro and Cherno, causing newer players a chance to grab a revolver or a old winchester shotgun in a small town without getting pestered by a guy with night vision, grenades, and a AK47. Also causes the game to be more exciting the the major towns, making solo players have to be careful and plan were to strike to get loot or risk getting ambushed. Personally, I'd rather just rush to the major towns and get better equipment and know for a fact I will find a gun rather than waste time in the small towns
- Zombies have trouble spawning in sometimes, resulting in you getting a zombie free area for a small amount of time.
- Zombies knocking you down at 90% HP resulting in you dieing in a unfare way. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=8gEMpcBTnJk#t=770s

Now only if shitty arma networking was capable of being fixed so I could have a proper gunbattle. That would make Day Z alot funner.

zombie free areas don't sound like a flaw tbh. They could have been drawn off or something.

Thats not always whats really happening. Its not possible all of the zombies in Electro have been chasing one guy, and new ones still haven't spawned for a few minutes.

Other people have reported this issue too. Sometimes zombies take too long to spawn, but thats not too big of a issue.

I think it looks awesome. I'll buy the arma 2 pack when it's on sale.

PS. This mod is so popular that arma 2 combined operations is number 5 in the steam top sellers list atm.

The concept of the mod is truly amazing, I don't get why no one has come up with something like this before. ARMA 2 doesn't seem to be the proper game for it (shitty engine and all), though there's a lot of talk of making it a standalone game or even a DLC for ARMA 3 (The Day Z developer works at Bohemian fyi) Really excited to see where he takes it from here, I think the game has huge potential.

I think an engine built from the ground up for it would be amazing.

I'm enjoying the video. it definitely looks better then other arcadey types. It's weird we don't have a rpoper Survival game considering how popular Zombies currently are in the media

Man i'm totally digging this game, bought ARMA just for it, definitely not regretting it. Me and Dnice are playing it, come play with us everyone. I just committed my first PK, was fucking epic, popped a guy from a good distance with my einfield. I don't normally shoot without warnings, but I encountered the body of a dead guy before I heard this guy wildly shooting around further ahead. I trailed him for a bit, turns out he was a pretty wreckless noob, popped him in the back while he was running. Epic.

CBA putting my self at risk in front of these kind of people

EDIT: I died for the very first time, sadface, PKed as well. I suppose I had it coming, wasn't nearly careful enough moving down into that big city. There's bandits everywhere, just laying on rooftops sniping you. Such is life on Day Z, kill or be killed.

I lost: map, compass, einfield, makarov, some food and drinks, flares and chemlight. Not that big of a deal, it was gear I gathered in +- 3 hours.

Btw for those contemplating getting it:

There's some great video diaries you can check, I enjoyed watching them, and playing it is so much fun.
(Yes it's buggy, as is to be expected from an alpha, but it's not like any other game I've played before)

Let me know if you get it, we'll join forces sometime

I plan on grabbing it when I leave your fantasy land country.(I'm gonna be in Gent saturday, apparenlty it's the most Belgian looking city in Belgium?)

For anyone interested, you only need Operation Arrowhead cause Arma2 has a Free to play component.(apparently)

I'm gonna pick up both anyway, I loved Operation flashpoint, too bad the development team and publisher was split

No, you need both. The f2p version does not support user-created mods.

I am thinking about getting this. However with Diablo 3 coming out, I suspect I won't have the time to put in to this zombie mod with my current work schedule, etc.

I bought Combined Arms (Arrowhead + Arma 2) for 25 euros, I read mixed reports about whether you need both or not. AFAIK you did. Anyway, there's a bunch of cool mods aside from Day Z as well, so it's definitely a good buy if you're into the milsim kind of deal.

Servers run on 'real time' by the way, this means that if it's nighttime in the US, US servers will be pitch dark. And I REALLY mean pitch dark. If you're just starting out. it's better to find a daytime server (EU if it's nighttime in the US), until you can get some basic gear. There's NGV, flashlights, flares, chemsticks, campfires etc to help you at night but using them is often a huge risk, especially near populated areas.

Patches are every 1 - 2 days usually, priority currently is on fixing glitched graphics I believe. (This should make the PvE element better, since it can be hard to properly shoot Zeds sometimes) There's +- 2k players online at any given time, and the mod is still growing. (Servers are 50 - 65 people max, the map is huge)

Use this map until you find one ingame:
http://arma2.org.ua/gallery/files/1/southzagoria_original.jpg

You probably want to avoid the big coastal cities, unless you really need a hospital (if you lose a lot of blood you need a blood transfusion, and hospitals have tons of other important gear)

(Names ingame are in Russian, the map you find ingame may be in English, making it extra confusing)

So say you get friends together, you can play together? or the spawning is random and playing with friends is pointless?
