As Europe in Ruins wants players to wage war all across Europe, it is going to be vital that there is a large variety of maps available. Obviously, Relic's maps alone will not do and people might quickly get bored of playing the same old maps.

Thats why we have these custom map forums, however, creating a map of relic-like quality is a huge effort and thus custom map creation only progresses slowly.

There are however additional ways of bringing map variety to the players, one of those ways is simply creating alternate versions of the most played Relic maps. Adding a new atmosphere, some minor new details, etc, things that give the map a completely different feel without touching the "fun factor" of the map at all.

(This can also be done for custom maps.)

Do you think this would be a good thing to do (given that Relic gives us permission to do so with the right credits attached.)Huh Vote and pass me your thoughts!

Kinda yes, I remember someone released a mappack with singleplayer maps for multiplayer a long time ago, among which was Carentan. So yes, it's possible but it takes alot of work to do so though Wink.

I have had no experience in map making in this game but a lot in the Cossacks series.

What they did in several of their games when they were published was to make one absolutely HUGE map and then for random selection, sectioned it off into probably 100 or so sections. The section that came up was the one that was played.

This might work here.

why don't you guys download the d-day map (there is a problem where the allies can't get across the barbe wire part. But maybe you can fix that) you can get it at this link http://companyofheroes.filefront.com/file/DDay;72921 . The map would be awsome in attack and defend,

Yup, already had that planned, got permission from one of the creators of a D-day map to alternate it a bit for EiR, while still giving him credit of course.

This should mean:
Allied troops "coming out of" the landing crafts (Well at least it'll look a bit that way Tongue)
Possibly disabling vehicle entry for the beach team and trying to have no retreat option Wink.

At Omaha only two DDT tanks made it to shore and were quickly taken out. The rest were swamped by the awkward current and sunk. On the other beaches, DDT tanks landed with the troops, and contributed to the significantly less casualty count.

There are a large number of maps available at www.planetcoh.com. Of course you'd need their permission, and not all of them will be THAT good, but it could be a good supply of maps.
