I figured I would pass on the fruit of my labor and a short walkthrough for those silly enough to follow in my footsteps.

Step 1: Use the heightmap editor tool. Set feather to zero, and height to about .75 meter below where the terrain height currently is. (adjustable but this will put soldiers at about mid chest.

Step 2: Carve out the rough shape you want to BOTTOM of your trench to be. Tweak as necessary.

Step 3: Select the spline tool, go to wall->support and choose whichever fits your fancy. Lay the spline all the way around (if it is a curvy trench) or in sections (if it is boxy). Place the spline just above where the ground begins to curve up. CRUCIAL!!!-> Make sure the spline is set to wall mode and TURN OFF ADJUSTABLE TO TERRAIN!

Step 4: Click on the spline (which is more than likely under the terrain) and hold down the H key and move the spline up into place so it is situated nicely and evenly flush with the surrounding terrain.

Step 5: Use the heightmap tool to even out the entrances to make them passable

Step 6: Spline the floor, splat to taste and viola trench complete.

This one took me around 3 minutes

Kudos to Kolath for helping me through all this nonsense

Using snow on your maps:
Here is the link for the snow atmosphere:

http://files.filefront.com/HURTGEN+SNOWAPS/;9442255;/fileinfo.html

just put the .APS file in:

C:\Program Files\THQ\Company of Heroes\WW2\Data\Art\Scenarios\Presets\Atmosphere

(may have to create folders), in the map editor under "Atmosphere Properties" click "load" and select the "HURTGEN SNOW.APS" this will load the atmoshpere settings to change sand to snow.

for the snow texture any (originaly) brown/light brown texture should look white. for Hurtgen Snow I used "Sand\SAND_BASE" and "Sand\SAND_ROUGH_01" second one is the best, first is just a good base for the snow.

to turn off the falling snow in the "Atmosphere Properties" under "Weather" turn "Speed" to zero.

Also attatched is a guide to the random flares, should have all the info you need.
(This is best done with night-time only maps)

All credits for this go to Texas. Thanks man!

Enjoy Smiley.

Map preview image
Here's how to create a proper map preview image.

1. Open up #p_mapname_mm.tga (This is the minimap file) in Photoshop/Gimp or simular.
2. Add full white circles on the starting locations, save as #p_mapname_map_base.tga (This image will show up when using "random starting locations") For reference, see relic maps.
3. Now add numbers to the white circles, representing each player's starting location. (This image will show up when using "fixed starting locations")
Again, for reference see relic maps. Save as #p_mapname_map_slots.tga
4. Both files should be in your main "mp" folder.

Note: you can also graphically enhance map preview images like Relic does.

Loading screen
1. Use a screenshot you like, set it to the proper size (preferably optimal screen resolution) and save as .tga.
2. Save the map in the "loading" folder inside your "mp" folder, create the "loading" folder if needed.

Now when exporting the map in the WB (or when using Corsix), these files, when in the right folder, will be added into the .sga and show up ingame. Enjoy!

I have noticed that a number of snow maps have been in the works and I have a rather nice icey condition for the rivers or ponds. I usually just save my secrets for a map  Grin but, since I probably won't use this for a while I will just give it up, hope to see it is some map.

These are the conditions you need to set your water to:

menu located at Senario/Terrain Properties. also you can change "foam map" to get a some what different appearence on the surface. (note. water bodies that are to large may have problems with this, you can try tweeking the options to fix any issues)

To copy anything, select the object, splat, spline whatever... hold down CTRL+C then drag click to copy.

To modify a spline, select a spline and press spacebar for the editing mode, then spacebar again when you're done rearranging it's length, etc.

You could watch the video tutorials I made, they specify how to do these things as well.
