No, it's illegal to show them off in public but it's not illegal in historical media, like films, books, magazines etc. Even in Germany video games have recently been classified as art and thus fall under the same legal category as films and books.

The Hammer and sickle is also illegal in many countries but do they censor that? no, because the developers are communist bastards.

To be fair, Stalinism is far from Communism and Stalinism was only one period of soviet history, the hammer and sickle was there before and after Stalin ruled the Soviet Union. So you can't really compare it with the Swastika which is solely and entirely the emblem of Nazi Germany. As such it's much harder to defend banning the hammer and the sickle, unless you want to similarly portray almost 75 years of soviet history as one great evil.

None of that shit was envisioned when the Soviet Union was first created in 1917 and when the flag was first adopted. To then equate 75 years of Soviet Russian history to just the terrible period of Stalinism is quite frankly an affront to proper historical analysis.

By that logic we should start banning a lot more flags.
Not that I support banning flags in the first place, if you are portraying a historical period then I don't see why you can't portray the symbols of the time... But to completely equate the German Swastika with the Hammer and the Sickle is incorrect.

Historical Accuarcy =/= Proper History

Go on, show the hammer and sickle to random people (Well, maybe not in Russia) and ask what it makes them think of? I can tell you personally that when I thought it would be "funny" to print it on a t-shirt for some school thing (not sure why we were making prints for tshirts, some art thing) one or two of the older teachers got a bit disturbed I choose that one.

They'll think you're a communist, which they then associate with Stalinism as the prime example of why supposedly this communism is bad (despite the two being hardly related). Anyone with a bit of education on the matter would probably just stop at thinking you're a communist, without that immediately implying you support Stalin or the murder of millions of innocent people... Though since that's going to be a minority of people, you're better off not wearing it a on a shirt of course. (But maybe you Swedes are very sensitive to this, in Belgium no fucks would be given as it's okay to be a communist just as well)

That's a bit different than running around with a German swastika on your shirt, is it not?
