So, if (realism) mods for CoH were to represent 'veterancy' in a 'realistic' manner as stated below in an outtake from Stephan Ambrose's Band of Brothers (the book inspired the series), how would you feel?

"There is no such thing as 'getting used to combat,' " the Army psychiatrists stated in an official report on Combat Exhaustion. "Each moment of combat imposes a strain so great that men will break down in direct relation to the intensity and duration of their exposure...psychiatric casualties are as inevitable as gunshot and shrapnel wounds in warfare.... Most men were ineffective after 180 or even 140 days. The general consensus was that a man reached his peak of effectiveness in the first 90 days of combat, that after that his efficiency began to fall off, and that he became steadily less valuable thereafter untill he was completely useless." - Quoted in John Keegan, The Face of Battle, (New York: Penguin Books, 1976), 335-36.

If such a system was implimented in EiR, would it possibly curb the practice of vetwhoring by reducing effectiveness over time as units reached Vet 4/5 (though they would still be better than Vet0, possibly up to Vet2 units)?

I want to ensure we have a 100% decision on the process before we do the wipe.
If not, then I wipe, then someone gets something they shouldn't, then it gets abused, then the shit hits the fan and then I ban shab.

That would kinda defeat one of the main purposes of a persistence mod wouldn't it.....

So long as you gave a mechanic to cycle your exhausted troops out of your active company for "leave" it shouldnt be a problem with the combat exhaustion.

However, I guarentee you that our so mathmatically exploitive community will find the proper amount of "cycle time" it takes to maintain the highest vet/combat effectivness despite the exhaustion.

Might be alittle complicated atm, but a neat idea.

Pointless, just reduce the ability to retreat from combat for infantry and support crews. Oh, look, you can suddenly outrun a tank!

Yeah, 180 days of combat, an EIR game is just 30 minutes.

Also you are the only vetwhore in EIR, preserving vet isn't even an effective strategy because it only works on some units like heavy tanks and artillery pieces.

I'm terrible, I know. And yeah, I'm just that kind of self-centered dickbag to suggest this for myself and myself alone, yep. You guys nailed it. Totally wasn't thinking that this could curb vetwhoring--"only 30 minutes"...well, it's not CONSECUTIVE days in combat. Your combat hardened veterans took (in the CoH world) a damned long time to get to Vet5. But naw, that wasn't what I was thinking at all.
