Im not good at Guides but here goes this anyways.

the first thing  many of you will want to do is Lower sounds comming to you or raiseing sounds going out, or vice versa. to do this hit setup and then click on the voice tab

this tab controls everything to do with peoples voices to you, along with your voice to them, this only controls voices as a whole  you can not change indvidual user volumes more on that later.

outbound in vent is your voice going 'out' this is what other people hear

inbound in vent is peoples voices comming to you, this is what you hear.

i recommend useing direct sound on both your outbound and inbound devices, you can test  your sounds in the corner there as if you were talking to your self

NEXT - EVENTS

some people want events off (such as my self) many want them on do ethier

go to set up, and click on the events tab, if you want them off (no sounds when people connect or join channel) hit the all Nothing and your done
you can customizes and test it out to your liking to the side

the other tabs in setup do various small things, default is normally acceptable to Myself, but feel free to explore, just becareful what you touch.

Comments

Comments are one of the coolest things about vent, and the new vent (3.0) has 2 comments to post a comment simply his the comment button on the side Two above setup

the first box will be displayed next to your name the 2nd box will place a U next to your name (its ment for websites) people can copy
Ethier box you place there by simply selecting your name, going to MISC going to copy comment (or copy Comment URL) its now in there clip boards

Changing the Incoming Volume on A single Player

This is by far the most loveable feature of vent for  me

is someone to loud, is there bass shaking your windows, well instead of lowering your volume to the point you can not hear company of heros, lower HIM to your speakers

to do this simply select him,  Right click, go to MISC go to special effects

find Volume add it to the 'active' list, select properties to volume

Now you can drop him down to 10% or as high as 900% of his Normal Sound

Chatting - the Chat button takes you to a Priviate channel chat, or a Server wide chat depending how the Admin sets it up.

There are many options in vent 3.0 i dont know yet, bindings to players  for priviate messages , auto join channel on login, private chatting many small things

if you need help feel free to PM me, on ethier admin ability's or on players, ive been useing vent 2.0 for over 2 years and 3.0 from Day one.

as an Admin on both.

Good luck, and happy hunting.

---------------
Connected to server but unable to authenticate your login name and password. Make sure you entered the correct global server password or the password for your unique login name. You will be automatically banned if you try connecting with the wrong password several more times, so be sure you have the correct password before you try again. Passwords are case sensitive and must be completely retyped if you are making a change to it. The password will always be displayed as 8 (*'s or dots) even if the actual length of the password is shorter or longer then 8. You should also verify that you entered the correct IP address (or hostname) and Port number. If the port number is wrong you are connecting to the wrong server.

Vent is kinda user unfirendly and Eye-unfirendly.

Get rid of the password you tried to enter & try again.

lol, that's your microphone settings.
At the start screen of vent, where you have Username, Server & Bindings.
Each with a -> arrow next to them.

At server, click -> and enter your password.

Heh, depends on the user. I find it very friendly. Anyway, try to right click that window that opens. Go to View, you probably have "Extended View" enabled, disable it.
3 Combo boxes should appear. User Name, Server and Bindings. I expect you already have a user name set up. Click the -> Next to the second combobox. You'll have a password field there.
