How is seizing the "Russian side" of ukraine not an act of war?

There will be no world war 3, with the amount of thermonuclear ordinance at stake. The world will simply cease to exist within 3 hours of the first bomb dropping.

Personally I much prefer the west "chickening" out and living to live another day.

I'll  take Russian intervention over the  national socialist backed  new  Ukrainian  government.  Much  more  stable  that way

Give your head a shake. We should not be dropping nukes the second a large country steps out of line either.

What should be done is everything possible first, and taking military action last.

China & Russia are not allies per say, but rest assured if the West decided to flex its muscles in Russia, China would seize the opportunity to finally take on the West. They own the West monetarily, give them the right opportunity and the West is fucked.

What people don't understand, is that the Crimea is a Russian province that was added to Ukraine in order to make a clean administrative line during the Soviet Era. That would be like us adding Oklahoma to Texas, then Texas leaving the US and the people in the old state of Oklahoma wanting to still be in the US. Years later, Texas has a revolution and is taken over by radical National Socialists. The US takes the opportunity to retake Oklahoma with the consent of the people living there.

TLDR: Russia is doing what the people in the affected area want anyway, and Ukraine's puppet government is upset because it's one of the most important areas in the country. If you think the core revolutionaries were good guys you have been reading too much of the media hype.

USA sure as hell isn't getting involved publicly after Iraq and Afghanistan, except for maybe tier 1 units and maybe missiles (same situation as Syria). No one will know that the commandos are there so it doesn't matter for media purposes.

Not quite.

The Crimea was given to the Ukraine in 1954 due to the fact that Ukraine was in a better position to help the Crimea after WWII (remember, Sevastopol and the surrounding areas saw two major battles and was essential in ruins by 1945). In addition, Nikita Khrushchev was also half Ukrainian, so he may have been a bit inclined towards giving things to Ukraine.

But, you have to remember, the Crimea was still part of the Ukraine when the Soviet Union broke up. It still is legally a part of the Ukraine. Russia seizing it could ignite a breakup similar to the breakup of Yugoslavia (if you remember was quite ugly and led to massacres on both sides).

As I pointed out earlier, a Russian intervention may appear to stabilize thing in the eastern parts of Ukraine on the surface, but could lead to a nasty breakup or war. Plus, many of the Baltic republics will be quite a bit more concerned about the Russians, and remember they are NATO members.

The best thing would hopefully be for Crimea to remain within Ukraine, with more autonomy.

this thread shows nicely the age differences in audience. i was similarly  surprised to hear identical media pro EU/USA massage spilled all over facebook by my younger friends. it seems new generations are more suspectible for brainwash and more important CANNOT make their own research/opinion... i pity you

- janukovich was legitimately direct elected president, and there was 1 year left to new elections anyway
- west of ukraine is cheating on social dotations (dont know the term, they get money for free for unemployment etc.) and in same time doing illegal construction work all over middle europe. now you tell me, if you were worker in east region working hard local and actually making some product, would you agree to go EU so more cheaters can get free money through varoius programmes and ngo and you work on them, and as bonus you get quotas what u can do? oh and i forgot from now on, russia will bill market prizes for oil and gas, remember no more friends
