Give it a upgrade that allows it to hold territory its deployed in.
That way it can detect backcappers, and prevent the capture of the territory.

It had a Flare for a long time. That was swag. I don't know about your suggestion, though...

I would consider tanks holding territory, but not something as cheap as a Vampire.
