Enough, Put a damn password on Vent or something

Seriously, the amount of spammers that have been pouring into the ventrilo as of late is ridiculous. Put a publicly known password on the forums, and that way random people can't just join up and spam the ventrilo server with gunk and soundboards while we have no admin powers to stop them.

lol, there was a person/programme just recording us then playing it back for ages, i have to say it was pretty funny, but it could get anoying.

Sigh, why isn't the access restriction system working. Guests are only suppose to be able to change channels, broadcast, and go into the chat. They can not play binds or TTS. Apparently that's not working so I'll either have to add a PW or figure out what is wrong with the permissions.

maybe they were recording on another programe and just broadcasting it through the mic.

I think we need a CA program.
Apex isn't around all that much, Akranadas is only around on the odd timezone, I'm not alwas on Vent the entire day either and the other members on the dev team don't have a lot of time to be on vent all together.

If I felt like I could actually trust members of the community to only do their job and not act like idiots we may be able to do that.

Eh, I'd be happy to do it when I'm on, though that is mainly weekends.

I think your best bet is just to put a password. Make it something easy like "eir" or "europeinruins" and display it prominently on the website or forum post about the vent server.

How do most spammers reach the vent server? Some sort of search for vent servers or from the website?

Most have no desire to play the mod so i doubt they would find it though the website. If they saw the website they would not be like " ohh look that mod MUST have a vent server, il go look". they probobily do a server search thingy.

In which case, posting the password on the website would filter out people who search and would not exclude players.

I'm on a lot, and you can trust me to not screw around with it. I'd be happy to clean up spammers when they show up, it seems like they're on every day now...

There are those of us that can be (and were with TS) trusted with CA abilities. I think if there were some of us granted with the abilities to do things such as kick and ban, etc...then we could keep Vent clean (cleaner than it has been).

The problem with requiring people to register is if we have someone that just wants to hop on and listen to a battle or such, before they decide they want to get into the mod cant, and some people are lazy and do not like to register for things. Im not a fan of pw's when we have the capabilities to police our own server ourselves.

Yep bring CA back, also it is kinda "harder" to register with vent that it was with TS.
Just not "youknowwho" since they did "youknowwhat".

And the "admins" dont really tell anyone to reg btw...

You mean since I did my job and moderated the channel to permanently keep out a couple of spamming assholes? Yea, it was so terrible, everyone else got speaking rights, they couldn't so sat there spamming text.
