This may be the first one ever created... I just read about it today.  Can't view the videos or see many screenshots because I'm at work.

Hmm, ever heard of Sovereign (canceled) or 10six (dead, imba)?

Those were interesting strategy games.

This may be the most offensive thing I've read.  At least, today.

There's been a lot of attempts to make succesful MMORTS but the majority of them have failed.

Well yeah there's lots of webgames of varying quality and complexity. The main problem with them is shit battle systems.

Hmm, guess I didn't realize it was a popular affair.  Saga is atleast a downloadable client, AFAIK.  In addition, after reading more about it, it sounds exactly like EIR.  You manage your forces, then you go into battles...

The GFX aren't amazing, but that game was made for the online persistent thing, CoH is not Wink.

What is the setting of saga?

There are two main aspects of gameplay in Saga. The first is managing your nation. During nation management you will be able to check the status of your nation, instruct your peasants' activities, visit the market to trade resources, troops, and spells, and work with your guild to create a powerful empire. The second aspect of gameplay takes place on the battlefield, where players marshal their units in massive online battles, similar to the LAN or online battles of most RTS games.

Being an online game, are their any subscription fees?

No. Saga has absolutely no sign-up or subscription fees. Instead, players are required to buy their troops in booster packs. These troops remain a player's permanent property, but can be traded or upgraded, and gain experience and new weapons and armor over time. Additionally, they can be killed, making strategy and effective use of troops essential to game-play in Saga. Players are encouraged to customize their armies from over 100 different troop types to find the combination that works best for them.

I'm going to start charging per unit puchased!

Sounds kind of like the 10six model. I actually ratehr liked that game, but it was dominated by clans hunting down noobs. That's the trouble with most of these games actually... I would be surprised if Saga isn't the same way.

unless a ranking thing is involved, so you can see the size army you are against etc and not to accept stupid battles...

ha, it would ruin eir if we had to buy our units.  I wouldn't play with anyone but a few people and i'd crush all the new people I could simply to dominate unopposed while ignoring the enemies who might crush me ...

muhahahaha!

I've actually played the Saga Beta and it stunk. In fact, it's not even a MMORTS. I believe the max players in a game is 4, at least the last time I checked. The only MMO aspect about it is that everyone has their own little city that builds in real time which takes forever. There's some persistancy if you lose buildings in a PvP battle, they'll be destroyed.

Unfortunately, you can't destroy any actual units so EiR is alot more persistant.

In fact, it's closer to a card trading game than it is to a MMORTS. They basically want you to buy these little booster packs which are the only way to raise ahead of everyone unless you spend 24 hours and 7 days a week playing and using the gold to trade for cards.

I give it a 6/10. Nice attempt, but pretty poorly implemented. I haven't played in months though.
