Ventrilo should NOT be required, stop being that way. They can chat in the launcher and in-game just as well as using Ventrilo to put a comment by their name.
Should vent be required? No. Strongly recommended? Yes. For better or worse, Vent is the primary means of organizing games and community building. There's really no reason not to run Vent even without a mic because if the rest of the team is on vent, the no-mic player needs to be able to at least hear the other players. |

Personally I refuse to play with anyone on my team who doesn't have Ventrilo.
I don't want to have to type a long sentence in the middle of a huge battle.

Most new players do not want to download another program just to try something out. I don't blame them, I wouldn't want to either. Some of them don't really care about talking to the community or hearing them be annoying on Vent. I don't blame them for that either. Saying they won't be team players or be able to be successful at EIR is a mistake.
This is equivalent of making a voice program a requirement for random automatch in COH. It's just not good for the community. So get over yourselves about not wanting to play with new people who aren't in Vent.
Chances are, if the like the game, they'll eventually download vent anyway. At least give them the benefit of the doubt for their first few games.

I'm sure overtime, as the playerbase grows, there'll be a more people that don't have ventrillo and the launcher will become the primary way of finding & setting up games rather than through ventrillo. Ventrillo will always play a role but I can foresee it becoming less important as the playerbase grows.
(Perhaps even to the extent where people just sit in ventrillo to talk to their teammates, as you would for 2vs2 Automatch on RO)

We need a better launcher and more helpful messages about what to do once the game is launched. We need to tell the host, that they are the host and tell others to join that game. It's just work and time...  |

I downloaded vent right from the start, maybe we should make it clear that having vent on is already a great help in battle. Mic or not. |

really we need to just find a way to have the launcher form its own in relic room and dump us in there directly from it so that there is no issues of getting lost between joining a game and starting a game, and it would fix that whole issue.

I haven't talked in depth to Corsix about this, but in theory, it could potentially be possible to automatically create the game and have the other players join it. It'd have to be a hack of some sort and I'm not sure how Relic would feel about it.
