You need to upgrade the Trading Post to expand it. It increases every second upgrade. You can "trade" with us, by using the "Transport Goods" action, no matter how far we are, but it takes a lot of time if we're distant.

No, no. Just research expansion then you can ship goods to whomever. Trading Post is only for buying materials using the trading post search screen. I'm content to leave mine at level 2 since we have a good alliance going and I can trade intra-alliance without having to worry about others.

You need it, I can't even 'send goods' to people a few islands away. In addition, I prefer using trading posts as it sets the resources & gold aside and makes it overall easier to keep track off.
I also don't think you can trade resources for gold without a trading post.

If he's close enough, you don't need Expansion. However expansion allows you to pillage and trade over any distance.
BTW: Phil, you aren't in the Friend's List?
Buying resources with gold is a huge waste of money unless it's around 10g per piece. It costs 8g an hour to harvest 1 piece of luxury resource.

I get 20 gold a piece so it's well worth it if it's a resource I don't have access too . I generally pay 15 - 18gold a piece for wine and about 20g for marble. Looking into expanding ASAP though so that I can rule out the need to purchase marble & wine. (Wine first so I can upgrade my tavern and maintain a constant flow of wine to keep my people happy) And it's not like there's much else I can do with 3k of gold, I need those resources to expand.

heh, you must be lucky, no resource on the market goes for less than 30g a piece in my area.

I'm waiting for this guy to go inactive so I can really unleash my hordes on him. He easily has a ton of glass to pillage still. I just bought 200 sulfur for 20, and I'm hoping to sell some of my glass for 30. I also put up an offer for 200 marble for 17, but I don't expect anyone to go for it Right now trying to decide if I should upgrade the library, or try to push the 450 glass onto the market to have enough gold for a colony.
