Players should not abuse other players over the Europe in Ruins Ventrilo server as this is harassment and will not be tolerated in any form.
- Players may not talk about illegal activities on the Europe in Ruins Ventrilo server;  this includes any and all warez talk.
- Players using the Europe in Ruins Ventrilo server are using it under the notion of playing Europe in Ruins. As such only Europe in Ruins may be played on the server.
- The Lobby is for starting up games and should be treated as such; if you are in the lobby it is gathered that you are looking for a game. There is a discussion channel for Europe in Ruins discussion and if you wish to talk but not play then please use that channel.
-  Please do not harass any of the development team while they are on the Vent server.
- Members with the following tags; [God] [Mod] [Dev] are in charge of the vent server and what they say is final.
- Remember to respect each other while on the server; we are a small community.

------

The question is, with the community partaking in this webbased game it is infesting vent on a regular basis..  Do i moderate this use of vent, I am unsure as Dash himself plays, yet it is clearly against the vent rules.

I don't have a mod forum to ask, so I'm asking here.

DR.NICK IS NOW BANNZORED FOR WAREZ!!!!

Well, I say that we treat this web game like any other game. Europe in Ruins vent is just for that, Europe in Ruins, because that is what I will be doing until told otherwise.

I was joking about the Banned thing. Don't call me a Nazi.

Just covering our asses. They're not strict, the only one that is really strict is the warez one, and with the publicity that EiR is getting in game mags and websites; it would look really bad if we appeared to encourage stealing software

You don't have to encourage it, but you don't have to speak out against it either =p

I think so. and you can't stop people from doing it, the only thing you can do is force people not to talk about it on vent, is that really what you want?

Its kind of a mute point to be arguing.  Its EIR's vent, either u respect their rules or get out.  End of story.  If you don't agree simply don't use their vent!  I'm grateful that they provide free vent for anyone that wants to play, so I'm willing to obey some simple rules.

I don't care what you do in your own time Dr.Nick but re-read the rules before getting up me. Seriously.

Akranadas since we arent playing it, we should be able to discuss it, its not a game you sit and actively play.

IMO since its not a game that is really being played, all we are doing is discussing it.  If we were actually sitting and actively playing it then I can understand people having a problem about it.  If we are just talking about it, that shouldnt be a problem; its not like some people that actually sit and play Generals on the server.

Edit: and that rule about warez is the illegal copying/trading of games, since this is a web based game it is completely legal and NOT warez.

I'm not trying to get up on you, I just simply hate anything that affects Freedom of speech no matter what the case.

Personally, since all you can do is talk about this game I think there is no point of even trying to moderate it, if you want to talk about it, go to discussion, just dont do it in the lobby; that is where players are trying to set up games.

Trying to moderate it would be just plain dumb, because it is just talk...not trying to offend anyone here.

Of course it isn't warez.

I was talking about the warez rule in general.

@ Dr. Nick; Freedom of speech exists, it's just we don't want you to discuss illegal activities on the Vent. Downloading/Stealing software is illegal. By your same logic, I should allow the discussion of paedophilia on vent, because it attacks freedom of speech.

Good original post, Salan.  I was wondering this myself the other day and I will admit that I too was talking about the web-based game.

I tend to agree with Draygon that since it is not a game we actively play like SINS or WIC, it isn't as much an issue.  I would say idlely chatting about it while waiting to get an EiR game would be like chatting about the baseball game you played yesterday.

I'll defer to FL's ruling on the issue, but until then I plan to operate under the guideline of allowing it as long as it doesn't disrupt the ability of players to play EiR (such as monopolizing channels or using the battle channels).

It kills time when trying to setup a game such as waiting in the luncher for 20 some mins. most of the taking is done because non of us really know what we are doing in that game yet.

Rules obviously exist for a reason, however unless it becomes problematic, being lenient is always a good policy.
