To John (post 15):

I don't think this has to be historically accurate in resources. In fact, if it was historically accurate, it wouldn't be that fair of a game.

Or, if you want to add the slightest amaount of historical taste to it, have Axis use U-boat pens to wreck havoc with Allied supplies.

*reason this isn't historical: U-boats were quite dead by 1944-convoys, Hedgehogs, short wave radar made them sink drastically low amounts of shipping compared to earlier years.

And since we get to "rewrite" history here, basing our maps only on important operations of WWII means that we won't really get into it. We need to include as many cities/areas into the mod to convey this freedom of movement to the players.

Exactly, it's not because Bastogne was the theatre of war for the "Ardennes Offensive" in 1945 that we have to completely focus on that. Many of the areas that were fought for after 1944 are included but there are so many more and this should give Axis & Allied High Command the freedom they need to truly enjoy the game.

Well i'm gonna make a trip to the local archives in Grenoble (aka "capital of the alps") in search or areal photos of the area/maps during the 1940-44 period. What's annoying with gathering information on cities that weren't involved in major operations is that there isn't much material to be found on the web about them.

we just need overview maps of countries and places of countries.
No detail maps, no photos, it's for a warmap, not for a game map!

Just making sure... Tongue

The photos/maps are for the maps themselves Wink no point making a region in the warmap that you can't play on.

Yes.  Sectors won't be limited to cities or historically important places (although it will play a large part).

This is where the actual research comes into play.   Making this Warmap is a lot of work (contrary to popular belief).  I dont have the time to research everything myself, that is why we have put it out there for the public.

As we are recreating the war somewhat, it isn't going to follow the same route as WW2 did.  Therefore we need a large variety of places that people to visit and fight for.

Keep the ideas/information coming! Wink

Hills are important too. Also, I wonder if it is possible to make it so that where you approach the sector from determines where your men will come on from?
